That poor PTA for Wonderwheel doesn't help Winslet's Oscar chances imo. I,Tonya on the otherhand...

Boring weekend. Thor finally reaches $300m.
Also JL is now stabilizing but these are early numbers so you never know.

Yeah that's cool on Ragnarok getting to the triple century mark, but it won't get much further. Still, as a franchise of its own, it has consistently increased. Very good!

Re: Friday/Weekend Estimates
CMBYN needs to get in more than 9 freaking theatres.
I can't believe DH2 gross. I guess folks got suckered. I got suckered. My friend wanted to see that instead of Ebbing...film was a snoozer.
MOTOE. That I need to see. Nice gross.

Re: Friday/Weekend Estimates
Pretty good for The Disaster Artist, even though I expected a shade more with the massive social media presence.

Great for TDA. Wonder and JL are quite close there's a very heavy chance that JL drops to #4 in its 4th weekend.

They can't rush CMBYN. As desperately as I want to see it they really need to take their time with it. It will add 18 theaters next weekend for a total of 27, and then December 22nd it adds 84 for a total of 111. Should do solid in 111 theaters during that Christmas break stretch. And if my friend wanted to see DH2 instead of Ebbing, Missouri I'd get a new friend .

That is a really tough category to break into this year and the film is very poorly received. As soon as reviews came out it was clear she wasn't getting in. Definitely a good chance of a Golden Globe nomination on Monday though due to the split categories.

DH2 and Murder looking to both pass 100m after the Christmas holiday. Looks like it was a good idea to have them on the same weekend.

A24 does a lot with social media advertising, more than most indie studios and even some major studios, and The Room has a biiiiig online following. So I imagine that all skewed everything a bit. I imagine Friday will also be a bit frontloaded - wouldn't be surprised by a 20% drop today...

Yeah I think you're right about that. It was even front-loaded last weekend.

I don't understand the appeal for DH2. Its such an unfunny Christmas movie, ABMC is SO much better.

I'm just happy that after a month, Justice League has finally made as much as The Avengers did in three days.

It felt like it was taking forever, but it finally got there. It's IM has actually been pretty decent too, but it just doesn't matter when the film is going gross well under $300M domestic and less than $700M WW. It's still very much a huge failure IMO.

If you read between the lines though. There is still something there despite the failure

I think the release date and the fact that it opened SO less helped JL's legs but yes overall this a sign of good things for DCEU but they need to do way better than this.

Adjusted for inflation, Wonder becomes Julia Roberts first 100 million film in 7 years, and 20th overall.
And if Daddy's home 2 makes it, it'll be Mel's first in 15 years and 17th overall.

I hope Roberts gets to another streak of '99-'01 before she retires.
