Based on the trailer it looks quite entertaining and fun to me. 50/130

I'll go with $150m.

It looks like a big, dumb, fun monster movie which is pretty much expected. I don't see it doing aswell as San Andreas, but it might still put up solid numbers depending on the budget.

40/120

I think it will be quite the hit and start a new franchise. $150m+.

I used to love the game on Commodore 64 back in the 80's lol.

Looks like and Rock in these kind of roles is a bit of a draw.

I think $35m/$87m.

That's just moronic to predict such a multiplier.

April 20th is quite close to May 1st Marvel opener which would surely be an action movie. Thus the lower multiplier.

Yeah, so you're basing it off the likes of Oblivion. I get it. But that film was just not that well received. Rampage looks to be more in the ilk of San Andreas.

San Andreas wasn't well received and this looks like it will be similarly mixed with reviews but this time won't have the June weekdays to boost its tally.

That's wrong, SA was probably the most well liked disaster film since DAT (And I think it's even more well liked than that)

Theres an evil Mighty Joe Young about this that is fun (Though the Rock yelling Joe or George is fucking awful) This whole movie feels like the last final battle of Jurassic World. Like, he's gonna become good again, and fight the others.

A movie can be well liked before another movie but that doesn't mean it was well received.

lol. Come on, Jack. How isn't "well liked" the same as "well received"?

audience and critics.

Post subject:  Re: Rampage Predictions

Now you're just being needlessly stubborn. We were not talking about critics at all, and you know it. San Andreas was well liked and well received by audiences (much more so than Oblivion). Your point about San Andreas being released in June and thus Rampage wouldn't have those summer weekdays was sensible, though.

I brought the well received point in terms of critics and specially RT score which seems to impact the movie's OW nowadays a bit. I agree that audience like it.

I wonder what this could do now that The Rock coming off the HUGE success of Jumanji. Obviously, this won't come anywhere near that domestically, but I'd be surprised if it opened below $40M. I don't want to upp my expectations too much, but if reviews are decent and the later marketing is really good I could see it opening over $50M. Only having two to dominate before Infinity War is still going to absolutely kill its legs though so even with that big of opening I can still see a $125-$135M finish, although I guess it could recover later on with May being so damn empty.

This has the potential to be huge purely from the goodwill of Jumanji. It was an ensemble but The Rock anchored it. If he somehow gets Rampage to $200 m + he's probably approaching 1990's Will Smith levels.

Ehhhh pump the brakes. Big Willy Style anchored 2 films that inflate to $500m+.

Post subject:  Re: Rampage Predictions

I'd say let's wait and watch. Its just not Rock that is getting Jumanji to those high numbers otherwise it would have opened higher. I do believe Rampage will benefit with Rock being in it but that was true regardless because he sits well with this type of movies.

Can this do $200m+?

I'm not seeing it with Infinity War right around the corner, but who knows. The marketing has been really solid so far, especially after that tv spot that aired during the Patriots/Jaguar game. They definitely know their audience for this movie.

^ Agreed. Regardless of the reception of this movie Avengers is just two weeks and that will take A LOT of its audience so its legs won't be huge unless people are expecting a $70m-$80m OW for this.

This looks terrible but it's got The Rock - probably all it needs.
