Re: Oct 27-29 Predictions
On Halloween weekend I'm pretty sure Jigsaw will reach at least $25m. I'll go with $28m just to make it interesting.

Just like Rings nobody gives a shit about Saw anymore, but if it wasn't for it being the weekend before Halloween it probably wouldn't even cross double digits.

The trailer is pretty uninteresting too. They think that Jigsaw is some classic horror villain like Michael, Freddy or Jason when in fact nobody cares about him.

What other choice for a horror film is there next weekend? I only see Jigsaw. I think it can capitalise on that.

Re: Oct 27-29 Predictions
I am skeptical of Jigsaw's box-office potential. The ad campaign is falling short, and I agree with _axiom: it is overly reliant on the presumed "wow factor" of Tobin Bell reprising the role of John Kramer. The traps shown are also unmemorable. Audiences in general don't seem amused or energized by this perhaps-too-soon revival.
Suburbicon has star power and fairly aggressive promotion, but it will be felled by bad reviews. Dark comedy is hard to sell anyway.
Thank You for Your Service...no one wants to see downer PTSD dramas. Billy Lynn 2.0.

I'm thinking 11 million for Jigsaw which is still enough to take the top spot.

It pains me to say it but I don't feel any anticipation for JIGSAW at all.

You would think Halloween is a big boost for horror films but it actually isn't. At most it will add $2 than it would get on some other weekend. It will still open under $15m. There's nothing pointing to a better number than that.

Re: Oct 27-29 Predictions
Agree with most here. Jigsaw should have had bigger buzz coming into this weekend. Its almost a non-event.

Re: Oct 27-29 Predictions
One lousy weekend to follow another. The openers won't even combine for $25m. There is absolutely no excitement for Jigsaw.

Re: Oct 27-29 Predictions
The audience that made them hits outgrew Saw just like they outgrew Scream/The Ring, etc. The younger generation doesn't care about it because they've come up in an age where torture porn is a dinosaur of a genre.
The only shot they had was to do a full reinvention of the concept, but they took the lazy way out. I think there's probably still money in the franchise, but in the DTV realm.

Re: Oct 27-29 Predictions
I remember when the Saw films were all the rage, there was excitement and anticipation to see what new twisted games/traps were created. Now, nobody cares. Further affirmation there is a time and season for everything.

I feel like even my 4 Million prediction for Suburbicon could be too much. Same goes for my prediction for Thank You For Your Service.

Re: Oct 27-29 Predictions
The reviews for Suburbicon are so rough that I'm not sure who exactly is gonna see it. They're among the worst reviews of both Damon's and Clooney's careers. TYFYS has decent notices, but that didn't help Only the Brave much last weekend, so.
MT top 5:
1. Justice League - 17.9% 2. Jigsaw - 10.2% 3. Thor: Ragnarok - 8.6% 4. Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 5.1% 5. Blade Runner 2049 - 4.3%
The winter releases being so high really says a lot. But that's probably decent enough for Jigsaw, which should have some strong numbers tonight.

Re: Oct 27-29 Predictions
I saw Jigsaw tonight and there was a pretty good sized crowd for the 9:15. Can't see it totally flopping. Have a hard time seeing it approach 20 Million but I'd be happy with it if it did. I actually enjoyed it and would like to see it continue.

$20m isn't hard to achieve.

Previews will be healthy but given how long this franchise has been around, its multiplier to Friday may be low. I don't see it coming near $20m.

Re: Oct 27-29 Predictions
This weekend is going to suck. Weak openers and there could seriously be a Stranger Things effect too since that launches today with infinitely more hype.
