BOG & ERC Twitter:

$26.5m Happy Death Day
$15.1m Blade Runner 2049 (-54 %)
$12.8m The Foreigner

Pretty great for both openers, I'd say.

Even Blade Runner 2049 didn't drop as much as it could have (considering how massively front-loaded its opening Thursday preview to Friday number was).

So The Foreigner is another $30m actioner. Meh.

The weekend estimates are out before the weekend movie review threads have even been created.

Had to happen eventually with WOKJ slowly dieing.

Nah, all the box office forums (including mine) are pretty slow right now as there are no exciting movies...

You didn't get around to posting review threads either?

Horror is having just an incredible year all around. #1 openings for Split, Get Out, Annabelle 2, It, now Happy Death Day - incredible! And they're all crushing their budgets to boot.

The Foreigner looks like it'll be a nice hit for everyone involved - it didn't cost too much, and it's already a solid hit in China. Maybe American studios should be trying harder to get Chan into stuff with both Chinese and American appeal?

The Florida Project is having a low-key great run in limited release right now. A24 hasn't had a very good year at the box office, but this, Lady Bird, and The Disaster Artist should help turn its fortunes around.

Great for HDD. Should finish with about $50m.

I doubt this will finish with that low. I'm thinking $60m is the target.

Possibly, but we have Madea next week followed by Jigsaw. Plus, the film is utterly forgettable despite not being terrible.

Actually a pretty decent weekend all up and slight above last year's weekend gross. The next two weekends should overall match or slightly exceed last year as well.

What a year for horror. Where last year was all about animation hits (and this year lacking in that area) - horror has been on a roll.

Universal is having a great year overall. Even something like The Mummy will break even eventually.

Sadly, the new KJ admin are just not prepared to tackle any problem presented to them. They just want to do the minimum amount, which is basically just keeping the forum from being unusable (fixing table crashes every few weeks). They don't care about updating it, adding new features, making the necessary improvements to ensure timely and interesting content is made. It is a shame because there is clearly a community here, and one that could grow.

Good weekend IM for HDD. Looks like it will do well.

Decent for The Foreigner as well, I didn't expect much from it anyways.

Great opening for Happy Death Day and a pretty solid opening for The Foreigner. Both could have good legs this month, but no matter the final gross they should be very profitable regardless. HDD has such a micro sized budget and The Foreigner is already a hit OS. Not too bad of a drop for Blade Runner either, but it deserves to make so much more.

The owners' strategy of neglect and attrition seems to be effective, but to what end?

HDD's significant overperformance really surprised me. I guess people were desperate for something new to scare them on Friday the 13th. Buzz seemed muted for this one.
