Last Jedi presale discussion
Aw, remember when we had sell out threads? Been awhile.
Just wanted to make this thread 'cause tickets are on sale and from what I see the reserved seating is filling up really quickly around me.

Re: Last Jedi presale discussion
Calling it "The Last..." will always make it seem more important. I think this could get north of $800m.

Should be getting updates soon. It was in MT top 5 for most of the week.

Justice League flopping will surely benefit this. There's tens of millions of people who sat out JL and will be starved for a major event film.

ridiculous yo, only potter7 and new moon had more sellouts and that was on the night of release. Posted on November 29, 2015 So far Fri-Sun on pace with TFA, Thursday not close. TLJ also has half the amount of 2D showings.

Re: Last Jedi presale discussion
So it seems like it may come way below TFA for previews, but less far behind for the overall weekend?

Re: Last Jedi presale discussion
I'm not sure it's that. I did presales for the first time with TFA, and did it 2 days before, and got the best seats possible.
There are just way too many screenings for it. I think people realized it's not going to be that hard to see the film from a decent spot. You just need to know the theater.

Jesus, 44 showings in one fucking day. That's insane, and will never be sold out.

Are people really gonna pay $30 to see it an hour earlier?

Re: Last Jedi presale discussion
Depends where you’re seeing it. In LA the Fan Event pricing isn’t any more expensive than a standard IMAX ticket.

Re: Last Jedi presale discussion
Deadline is saying 200m opening, although maybe they mean 210m+ cause they say it'll be the second biggest opening but do not mention JW or Avengers.

What's the bar for success/failure on this..$150m opening? $180m? It's not going to reach TFA levels.

Re: Last Jedi presale discussion
It should clear $200m without much fuss. I'd be surprised with anything less. It will likely challenge Jurassic World for No.2 OW of all time.

It should reach $200m OW yes but I hope it doesn't get #2 OW record.

ridiculous yo, only potter7 and new moon had more sellouts and that was on the night of release. Thursday is going to be vastly different this time round, still matching/beating TFA throughout the wknd.

BJ, did you track Rogue One? I'm curious to see how Last Jedi's numbers size up against that film, since it still pulled $29m in previews.

Looks like Friday is on par but with more showings TLJ could still catch up

Re: Last Jedi presale discussion
I'm beginning to have some very mixed opinions on performance
TFA was a game changer. I would have preferred a longer gap between TFA & TLJ with no Rogue One release in between. Thinking 190-200 OW as of now.

Re: Last Jedi presale discussion
We're a decent amount off the pace of TFA here. At this point, looking like $210-220m range but still time for the needle to move.

Surprisingly high number of seats still available for Thursday night previews, definitely more than VII at the same leadtime.

Friday: Sold Out: 9 Showings: 50
Saturday Sold Out: 7 Showings: 48
Sunday Sold Out: 7 Showings: 49
Calm before the storm update. With 48 sold out showings going into the films opening wk, this is a new record for sellouts pre-release here in Anchorage besting potter7.2 which had 33 pre-release sellouts at night of release. TLJ Still running slightly ahead on fri-sun, and good to see it making up a lot of ground on Thursday, could eventually match TFA in the end.

Re: Last Jedi presale discussion
Plenty of tickets still left here too. I haven't even decided if I'm going Thursday yet, but I know if I did I could still buy a ticket tomorrow for a 7:00 showing and be good.
