Thor would be a 50% rise over the previous movie to get to $300m alone. That would already be an amazing achievement. Heck, $250m would be a great number for Thor 3 IMHO. CA3 got a huge boost being somewhat of a sequel to A2AOU, Thor 3 does not have that privilege. Even if it explodes do you really think it could get to $400m if GotG2 didn't make it after what was possibly one of the best received movies in MCU (GotG easily has the best multiplier so far)? And do you really think that after WW's $400m+ BO JL is not a comfortable $400m+ movie? If badly received movies as BvS and SS got easily over $300m+, then there's no way JL is doing under $400m even if it ends up being utter shit. Add the WW goodwill and the first weekend alone should be gigantic. The mark for JL is $500m. $450m realistic expectation.

And JL will cut Thor's legs short. Thor only has two weeks then it will be hit hard. JL has no big competition until SW8 comes a month later. But by than it will be the holidays and it could even slightly benefit from sell-outs despite the massive direct competition. So even the release schedule benefits JL more.

Thor obviously could beat JL if Thor is good and JL sucks. JL will open in the 150-170 range. Thor will open in the 120-140 range. So it's really a throw of the dice which makes more total. The trailers and marketing for Thor have been the best of all the superhero films this year. Guardians may have had a better predecessor than Thor, but I'm not sure anybody even remembers the first two Thors. They're not like super hated, they were just met with mehs. The marketing and hype surrounding the film really do indicate it's going to be it's own Beast rather than behaving like a Thor 2 sequel.

Justice League hurts, I guess, but this will obviously be far, far better received than the second Thor film. They've shined it up, Guardians of the Galaxy-style, and added the Hulk.
