Pine is so charismatic. He ensures trailer ended on a high. Otherwise CGI still needs work. 80s setting is always good. I am thinking it should open to 130m and make around 350m domestic/550m OS/900m WW.

Looks great to me. Don't see an opening below 120m as of now.

Really dope trailer IMO. This should definitely clean up in June, but I still wouldn't really be surprised if it did slightly decrease from the first considering how huge that movie was. I'm expecting a $120-$130M OW and a total around $350-$400M.

Also, this should crack $1B+ WW.

Odd choice not really showing the villain in action.

I think this will do 150m OW, 425+ total.

The trailer here is much more impressive than Black Widow's trailer. Having a remixed version of Blue Monday helps too :good:

I thought Black Widow had a more stylish trailer. This still should still do better at the box office though.

Lightning grappling looks so cool and I hope they make a video game entirely based off that mechanic.

I’m thinking $155M / $475M / $1.1B for an easy win in 2020.

I really liked the trailer. But I should have learned before Frozen not to over-predict sequels like this. I’ll guess 150m/440m.

I thought they are trying too hard with this and having a big reveal/money shot (riding the lightning) in the first trailer doesn't bode well for its future though this is the surest bet for 2020.

$125m/$400m

I see 160m Opening and 480 total If it doesn’t suck. If it sucks I could see it do sub 400.

Trailer was less frontloaded than Black Widow’s. I think part of the original’s staying power was due to demographics.

Wow at June only having 6 wide openers. Maybe something else eill move but it's really looking like:

WW1984
Soul
Pete Davidson/Apatow film
Top Gun
In the Heights
Candyman

The only other film looking at 175m+ gross is Soul so that should help with WW's legs.

Comparing it to MCU doesn't really say much given that MCU is hella frontloaded. Black Widow will be lucky to get to a 2.6 multiplier.

WW will have better legs than it but it still is will end up in the 2.5-3.0 range.

Well June will add 0.3.

I think the studios are having a "break" year.

... now date is August 14, 2020. This confirmation is probably cause so many people were creating fake rumors of it being released on streaming.

I'd like to think by then this situation isn't still dire so... we'll see.

Even if it’s slowed, I’m pretty sure it will peak before August. I think it will peak in New York or California in April, maybe May.

If things are “back to normal” this will explode to over $200M. More likely theaters will do limited seating once they reopen though. Will be interesting to see how box office is affected.

Post subject:  Re: Wonder Woman 1984 predictions

They’ll probably reopen sometime in May but with lower stake films, like what they’re doing in China. WW is so important I’m sure they wanted a big buffer to ensure no one stays away.

Ya I think if this situation is better by June and this is positioned as the first major blockbuster in a long time this should do big business. Hopefully not too many theater companies go under though.

Whether they go under pretty much depends on whether they get loan guarantees from the stimulus bill.
