Based on the reactions the new trailer is getting Marvel has another huge winner on there hands. Ryan has done it again.

That made $180m already but this has an additional appeal to blacks so I think $200m will happen. I never said anything about $300m BTW.

It is an assumption that Black Panther gets 100% of Ant-Man's audience PLUS "blacks". I am proposing that many people that saw Ant-Man will not be interested in Black Panther, and thus black people will compensate for that. But still, it's $180m. Maybe $200m. But this isn't another Iron Man.

The novelty of a superhero movie with a mostly black cast should help it make more than Doctor Strange. If the social climate during the time of release and reviews come in its favor, this can become a cultural phenomenon and do $350m.

Again I didn't say its going to be Iron Man huge , nor do I agree that Ant-Man and Black Panther have the same appeal so this should open bigger and do more than $200m but I don't see $300m for it, unless the factors before its release become too favorable and it shapes itself like another Deadpool.

You didn't. But it's not all about you. The thread is for $325m+, so I am proposing against the thread as well as your vague "more than $200m" prediction.

Not seeing it. First Marvel movie that kind of looks like shit to me. I think it's good for 200+ but thats it.

^ Surprised that this is the first one for you. There have been tons of Marvel movies that looked crap from trailers compared to BP.

I don't think the first Thor, TIH, or CA had great campaigns, the films looked meh. But the marketing campaign itself was solid enough, and at least made me want to see it. Jordan looks really bad, and the story and world just looks very non mainstreamy. Part of the Reason Thor worked was the Fish out of Water and mainstream perspective. If we hadn't seen him in Civil War, I would have absolutely no interest in it.

No way this makes that overseas. I see it making about 45-50% of its gross in the US. Nobody else cares.

What are peoples predictions for critics. Ryan Coogler has proved himself twice before and MCU is on a role. Plus this looks awsome.

There is no way in hell that critics will say they dislike a black superhero film. It'll get over 85% and be certified fresh.

Yes those OS numbers are a bit too high even if it makes that much domestically.

Hmm I thought the world actually looks more mainstream than they previously planned. I don't have comments on the actors. Also Ant-Man never looked great and had a ridiculous title to work with and the teasers were more funny than action oriented.

But it looked funny. And the premise was decent enough. Outside of hey that random guy from Ultron and that cool guy from Cicvil War are in a movie. I just don’t buy a Thor like world on Earth, seems really stupid. Which is a shame, I enjoyed the characters entrance and a glimpse at his world. Now it looks like totall bullshit

I understand that the changes are bit too artificial but its still more mainstream.

Post subject:  Re: Black Panther 325m+ club

I honestly don't see any problem with how they've been marketing it. Yeah the world might be a bit hard to buy into, but as long the trailers look good to the general public than it really shouldn't matter. Everybody seems to be eating it up so far, and this will have a HUGE advantage of being a solo film, because people don't actually have to have seen any other MCU films to enjoy it. I can understand the reservations, but this has all the makings of a MEGA-HIT IMO.
