Looks like the same Marvel crap again, except this time with black people.
If this is going to be people's standard of quality, it's pretty fucking low and pretty damning of the times we live in.
Wonder Woman, another lauded film, was especially awful. Same old dreck we've seen before except a woman's in it.
I've long suspected that reviews are good for superhero movies because of an American bias and it's true. Maybe it's Disney's pressure- as is now coming to light their dubious journalistic practices, but whatever it is, bad for the future unless people stop being such automatons and demand a higher standard.  _________________My DVD Collection

Re: Black Panther 325m+ club I guess it will pass 325 in the end now. It's opening is just going to be so big that it will propel it past the 325. Plus, it seems like either their is a higher level of hype with the way Thor Rag grossed over 300 and the building excitement for Infinity War which makes these lead ups as must watch/can't miss in theatres films for the general public.

Re: Black Panther 325m+ club MCU movies are getting frontloaded so an exact $100m opening doesn't guarantee a $325m total. It needs about $116m-$117m OW and get the average MCU multiplier of 2.8 to reach this mark.

Re: Black Panther 325m+ club I'm happy to have joined this right away. Such an easy call to make. It will be a cultural phenomenon. Like Get Out on a bigger scale. I'd say a Best Picture nomination is likely. I also think it will be at 100% on RT for a while and probably won't go lower than 99%.

Re: Black Panther 325m+ club I'd be shocked if that happened. This is a third tier superhero. Before MCU started, had you honestly even heard of Black Panther (other than the black militant group)? I hadn't. So for this to gross over $150m in 3 days would be insane and so shocking for me. Its timing has been great. But for it to out-gross all other solo MCU movies is insanity. I am pleased if it does ... I chose it in the draft.

This was the first MCU film and there was no good will built up over the last decade.
This wasn’t the first major black superhero film (or the first in 13 years). And unlike Blade, everyone can see it.
This wasn’t going to have good word of mouth. It’s early, but all signs are pointing positive.
Those reasons are also why no one will care that Black Panther is a third-tier character.

As we have seen with WW and to some extent Deadpool is that if something new is presented then the target audience will come in droves, plus good will of MCU and (expectedly) great WoM will only help in this case. It won't be surprising if this breaks $150m over 3-days but for now I predict
$140m/$385m (2.75 multiplier similar to DP).
