Yeah I meant that they would want to help IW as much as possible in this case but yes those drive-in numbers are wacky and there is no way you can calculate the boost on any particular movie. Going by the past I guess on IW's OW BP might see a slight bump in its gross.

Damn!! It still has a month to go and I am assuming those numbers for rest of the movies are their total tickets sold? I don't remember those movies selling tickets for more than a month in advance.

Yep these are estimated total tickets sold, will be interesting to see where Infinity War ends up. I'm thinking in the 60 to 65 Million range

These are total number of tickets sold during their theater runs If IW were to sell 72m tickets before release its opening Day/Weekend would be $700m

I thought this was to compare IW so my mistake and I thought that meant total BO numbers and not admissions before previews.

Using the ticket-price when Titanic grossed $600m, Bland Panther would be at just $325m now. So yeah, some perspective.

I guess it makes more sense for me to do it this way instead of dealing with these insane huge dollar figures for films made 30 years ago.

Yeah but with cheaper tickets more people would have gone as well. I wonder how Titanic would have done with pricing at today's cost and competition? One other thing to consider Titanic has had 2 re-releases to pad it's total. 1997- $600,788,188 2012 (3D)- $57,884,114 2017 (20th Anniv)- $691,642

On the weekend of March 20th1998, three months after release, Titanic made $17m.
On March 20 2018 Titanic would be getting released on itunes.

But perhaps more celebs would have booked out entire auditoriums to pad its total as well. It works both ways. Long-story-short: Titanic ain't "going down". Not by a long shot.

Yep I don't know why re-releases came into picture, it was clear that the comparison was to the original runs. Flava'd vs The World wrote: On the weekend of March 20th1998, three months after release, Titanic made $17m.
On March 20 2018 Titanic would be getting released on itunes. That's not true. You do realize that TGS and to a smaller extent Jumanji are still in theaters right? If in today's market a studio like Paramount (lol) would have struck a gold mine and get a film making $17m over weekend I bet they would have pushed the DVD release date.

Re: Black Panther 325m+ club
A 4.0 multiplier from this weekend puts it on track for a $690 million total - agonizingly close to $700 million. If it maintains these legs and manages to stay in multiplexes to the end of the month, I could see Disney doing some double feature deal with Infinity War to get it the rest of the way. They still haven't announced a release date for the DVD yet, so I imagine they're waiting for a June release? Probably the Tuesday before Father's Day (June 12) at the latest.

And it gets worse when you account for the % of tickets sold compared to US population. In that regard, I believe Gone with the Wind is the only movie ever to sell more tickets in its initial run than the US population at the time of its release (around 130m people).

I think we'll end up with around 75 million tickets sold and another 30m at the box office just short of 700m. I think If Disney does a last week in wide release promo it could send it out with a last minute 10m bang
