How much will this do?

I'd hope with its release date and likely heavy marketing push it could open to 40m and close with 130m.

Well, it's Disney so it is hard to be too down on its potential, but it looks crap so I want to go with $78m total.

There's five books in the series. Hopefully this isn't another Narnia where it takes half a century to get all the books on screen.

It should get a lot of the urban audience that should come out for Black Panther, not to mention it's trailer will be in front of Black Panther and probably Star Wars and Thor, so it could benefit from that like Hidden Figures and A Dogs Purpose did after having trailers with Rogue One and Fantastic Beasts.

This could open with or close with 70 million, IMO.

The book is really strange. It has an episodic nature. It transitions from a high fantasy book in the first half to a sort of dystopian sci-fi in the second half. It will be hard to make a good film version.

After the last goofy trailer, I’d Guess 30/90 like Tomorrowland.

This looks visually interesting... but like it'll flop. We'll see.

In a lot of ways, it reminds me of mid-tier family hits from the 2000s. My mind goes to Bridge to Terabithia and The Spiderwick Chronicles. Those film's adjusted runs: 37/106 and 30/88, respectively.

But I sense Disney wants this to do 150 or even 200-plus million?

Never understood the appeal of Oprah. She's rich and acts like it. The lack of humility rubs me the wrong way.

So even things that are popular along the Bible belt, Rolling Thunder seems clueless on.

This looks like fucking shit.

I really absolutely hate it.

No idea what it's based on, but the entire thing screams of being overproduced. You can just see the disgusting cheap Disney CGI flourishes with inane cinematography and blocking choices.

Burn it with fire.

Either this or Ready Player One HAS to do well. The schedule is too open for them to both disappoint.

$32/$90m

Bridge to Terabithia adjusted.

The Tomorrowland of 2018.

Both will flop. People haven't automatically gone to the theatre since like 2004. People will only go to see something that's appealing, neither of those are.

Yeah, don't understand how people are not seeing this as a total flop. Magnus posting $200m+ is a serious wtf.

No, I agree with that. I'm just assuming that one is connecting in a way that we cannot see. The studios cannot possibly have fucked up March that much.

If this would have been LGF then I would have thought less but for now I'll stay optimistic on this

Also I’m leaning for this do 200m+ now. Minoroties and females will drive this up.

Based on what though?

It really does look terrible.

Well, since Game Night moved to February it is looking more like they have. I'm getting that vibe from a lot of 2018 films. I think the overall domestic box office could dip again.

The overall box office could be saved by early summer stretch of May-June

I'd be really fucking surprised if this did $200M+ lolz. I don't think it looks awful, but just like RPO I'm not seeing the mass appeal either. Sure females and minorities will show up, but what about everyone else? This isn't going to be like Black Panther where it will have a ton of cross gender and ethnic appeal at least I doubt it does. Hell I could be wrong and it does open to BIG numbers, but I'd say Tomorrowland/John Carter numbers are more likely.

Aside from females which btw is easily capable to get a movie past $200m there will be some families and adventure audience. It's not a guarantee but there is potential

I can't picture this making 60 mil OW. I am thinking Jack the Giant Slayer type of performance. There's a huge portion of the audience this has no appeal to. I don't really buy the urban audiences argument, it's an Oreo, it has minorities on the outside but everything else is as white and square material as it gets, no cool factor

THe budget is just 103m, so it probably only needs 300m WW to break even which should be the low end for it. It probably won’t bomb at least even if it isn’t a big hit.
