Scott's prequels were dead even before that second weekend drop.

looks to finish with about 794-795

If this had kept the original July release it probably could have made 200m

i hope the domestic gross doesn't stop them from making another one

I think there's enough latent demand (assuming the 6th is the lowest grossing) to justify one more and still make a profit.

I hope they make one more. Both 3 and 4 would have been much more suitable finales than 5. The fifth really just made me want to see a 6 with its end credit scene.

I'd like to see a sixth film with Will and Elizabeth as the focus again, as the end credits scene of the fifth seemed to suggest.

that would be a good idea if they make it. Add more dynamic than just Jack Sparrow

I imagine a sixth film will happen with Disney ultimately rebooting the franchise sometime in the future.

depends what you mean by reboot. Even though it didn't make as much as the others, Jack Sparrow is probably the main reason why Pirates was not Cutthroat Island 2

I would love if Disney Loganized Depp as Sparrow. That really is all there is left. Thats the only thing that would ever interest me again. Plus it would cost super cheap and still kill it overseas

They still have to shoot in waters otherwise its not a Pirates movie and shooting in water is not going to be cheap.

Omg this. An R-Rated Pirates would be amazing. Hope Disney takes a gamble and goes this route, unlikely though considering the strong family audience for Pirates.

Cool idea, but X-Men was already pretty self-serious and angsty half the time. I think it would be a bigger 180 for what people go to the Pirates films for if all of a sudden it was dark and existentially brooding. I would definitely be more interested in it if they did that or cast a new Sparrow and Batman Begins-d this franchise though

I wasn't expecting POTC 5 to make more than TF5 and Justice League worldwide so it kind of looks better in retrospect

I remember reading before POTC4 that Depp had signed onto 3 more films. I didn't find proof but I'd be shocked if he didn't sign up for POTC 6. You gotta have 2 trilogies. Can't stop at 5. That's an odd number! :)

But POTC4 and POTC5 doesn't feel like related movies of any kind. Though I agree #5 is an odd number.

Retrospect? I’d just say comparison.

but still made three times its budget and held better from its predecessor than TF5 and Ice Age 5

$794,779,619 does not equal Dead
