Re: 3-day Weekend Estimates
Those would be good dailies for PotC5. Alien will have hard time getting to $75m even. LOL.

Re: 3-day Weekend Estimates
All things considered, Alien: Covenant has about the worst second weekend drop for a blockbuster that I can think of.

Re: 3-day Weekend Estimates
Ultron made 55 million more after this point in 2015. So it seems to me Guardians which has been holding better, could hit 390m.

What the hell happened with Alien?! It has good review. It's not trash. Did Prometheus really hurt the franchise that much that it's a 100% diehard fan only event now? I really hope we get one more to connect things with the original 1979 film.
Pirates did about what I expected it to do in the US. This will probably be the last film. Depp's career is on life support.

Yeah I just looked till Week 11 in the comparison charts. Regardless GotG2 won't get to $390m it can make $385m.

Re: 3-day Weekend Estimates
This will be the summer of flops. King Arthur, Alien (*sobs*), and Baywatch are just the beginning. Wonder Woman is looking like it won't really break out, The Mummy will surely bomb, Transformers will be another Pirates 5 situation, War for the Planet of the Apes looks dire and will probably decrease from the last one, Despicable Me will drop too, everything else looks like a flop.

I didn't mind the explanation for the xenomorphs, thematically it's actually great, but I can see why people are pissed off. It's not what they expected or wanted.

don't think anyone was expecting it to hit 400m. It's been holding well though.

Re: 3-day Weekend Estimates
The OS legs are still important for Pirates. It needs to clear $900m WW for another movie. Also this one was touted as "The Final Adventure" in marketing here.

Re: 3-day Weekend Estimates
Pirates U.S opening isn't good. The series continues to lose viewers. Should do 170mil at best. The overseas numbers will save it and Disney might make another one but it will be the last one because overseas will start dropping more as well.
Baywatch came in way under tracking. That number wouldn't be bad if the film had a 35mil budget and minimal marketing but it didn't.
Alien Covenant is officially a disaster. Not too shocking considering how mediocre the marketing and trailers were and how much so many people hated Prometheus.

Re: 3-day Weekend Estimates
I don't like the phrasing that "overseas will save it". It's ridiculous. Overseas is the majority of its gross and is for the majority of films. It's this old-fashioned mentality that the US gross is all that still matters. In fact, domestic will save Pirates. If it didn't have domestic grosses, it would still do pretty well with just overseas. Maybe break-even. Domestic will absolutely and totally be the one to save it (tip it over into profit).
