Probably whatever Guardians 2 does, this will also do.

Hmm a June release date with one Marvel movie surely coming out in May. I am not so sure, I think the biggest reason this breakout was the unique date and being the first superhero movie of the year. A lot will depend on its marketing still I see this one doing just about what the original did.

170m|400m

I actually think it could decrease in its opening. The marketing was so great with the first one that the second will find it very difficult to live up to. I see a Skyfall ($88m) / Spectre -type($70m) situation. But I guess it depends what elements they add to it. Who are the villains? What crossovers will there be? R-rating again (must be actually)?

It would be interesting to see its OW. I think it kinda maxed its potential OW-wise and it was by far the biggest X-Men movie though it could still increase a little OW-wise with summer release date.

It's looking like they'll be adding Cable and Domino, which is a pretty big deal. X-Force was huge back in the day, up there with the likes of Spider-Man and the X-Men in terms of comic book sales. Cable especially has been a pretty consistent factor in the X-Books for nearly thirty years now.

I remember Cable from the animated series, but Brolin is playing him. Not sure people will care.

For this I'm thinking...

But comic-book nerds have ever been the reason for comic-book film success. Average people don't know or care about Cable. I know Cable from X-Men: The Animated Series. No idea who Domino is. For the general public, it's Josh Brolin, not Cable.

Anyway, the marketing has started. Same style as the first, and feels a bit stale.

This looks about right for now.

The teaser is great and while I can see it pushing $150M+ I have a feeling its legs are going to be much weaker due to competition from both JW2 and I2 which I know is more family friendly, but plenty of adults will be watching it too.

I hope they keep Untitled Deadpool Sequel as the title.

I never really understand the overlap argument. Is there a law in the US that states people can only see one film per weekend? or if two films are released on the same weekend, any single citizen can only see one of them for the duration of their runs?

I still think this will do the same as Guardians 2. Probably weaker legs but an identical opening.

Yeah, but in total gross it really makes no difference.

I still can't believe how obscenely front-loaded next summer is and how barren July/August is yet again, as if the studios learned nothing from this summer. This would be perfect in Suicide Squad's slot, and probably stay in theaters to the end of August. As is, it's probably gonna be out of most multiplexes by the time Ant-Man 2 opens.

Anyway, I'm with Magnus that this will probably have an Iron Man 2-esque decline from the first. Deadpool was really loved by audiences, but there was also some novelty that made it an event movie in a way that this movie can't really replicate, especially sandwiched between like four movies with $400/500+ million potential.

Opening: $144 million
Total: $346.6 million (2.41)

The summer as a whole would be better off if Deadpool moved to August. Though the fact that its the only R rated blockbuster among the big 4 (also Solo, Incredible and Jurassic) probably ensures it stays where it is.

The move would also benefit Solo.

Yeah this being the only R-rated movie will help it a little but yeah all these movies will eat into each other's grosses to some extent.

Which is ridiculous. The studios deserve it really.

IMO - Solo, Deadpool, Incredibles and Jurassic all need two weeks between them.

Though Incredibles and Deadpool could go back to back without issue.

Fox should at the least move this to a week later and let Ocean's 8 take another spot. That way it will have enough distance from Solo and then another 2 weeks from JW2. It should be able to handle Incredibles well enough.

August would have been a better release date IMO. Right now there isn't a single blockbuster scheduled for that month, although there are quite a few films that should at least be mid sized hits. I still don't understand why studios like to make the summer so top heavy, especially with how bad it was this year. Solo coming out in May also still doesn't feel right, because it seems so rushed, but if they attach a teaser to TLJ than it's probably official.

Definitely alot of goodwill retained from the first film, as evidenced by the good reception from the teaser trailer in my theater. $350m - $400m DOM
