there would be fatigue if they made only five Iron Man movies or only five Spider-Man movie etc

since most superhero franchises are very different from one another, it allows there to not be fatigue

Quality, I'd say. RT scores Critics/Audience

Logan - 93%/91%
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - 81%/90%
Wonder Woman - 92%/91%
Spider-man: Homecoming - 93%/92%

That's incredible.

Thor: Ragnarok looks like it will be a crowd pleaser, but I'm not sure about critics.
Justice League I'm worried about.

Next year, so far at least,

Black Panther (I'm thinking Ant-Man numbers)
New Mutants - not sure about this one
Avengers: Infinity War - HUGE
Deadpool 2 - HUGE
Ant-Man and the Wasp - Decent
Venom - we'll see
Dark Phoenix - I liked Apocalypse more than most people, so I'm excited for this. But I'm not sure how it's box office will be.
Animated Spider-Man - not sure how this will do
Aquaman - depends largely on fan reaction to the character in Justice League.

Time will tell, but I could see some fatigue settling in after Deadpool 2, at least for the rest of the year.

I don't think the fatigue is setting up soon. The three biggest movies of this summer will be Superhero movies and there is just no way this trend is going down in next 5 years. It seems the DCU has found a formula for success and they are just starting.

I think we're seeing continued fatigue with Spider-Man. A quality film and Iron Man got the latest iteration to barely $300m

I think it is Spider-Man fatigure. The novelty of Spider-Man is gone

also while the movie is entertaining we aren't talking about a Dark Knight here

You think it's worse them Guardians 2? I'd say they are both solid if unspectacular, but SM is a solid increase in both quality and BO where as the former is just kind of pat on the shoulder

I don't think there will ever be a fatigue, it's just gonna be the quality and demographics it attracts, for instance I could see a campy Batman doing great as long as it's done well. Logan is the perfect example of just reading the audience, and going for it. Studios are getting less in the process. I'm sure another Blade with Snipes could be a big winner

As long as they're good, there will be no fatigue. The only kind of fatigue I could see otherwise would be if they tried to reboot Iron Man, etc., too fast.

I’d say there is just no other genre that can complete with it.

I think once the current crop of stars playing the iconic roles get replaced then you'll see it diminish. That and FOX+Sony doing their best to put out nasty product to help dilute it's popularity.

Many of the franchises with the most potential have been done. They are no longer introducing A-list material.

Yeah Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Black Panther are no longer high-potential A-list comic books and they are doing great. I don't see a fatigue yet. Maybe after the Avengers Infinity Wars but that's still few years of time building new successful franchises.

They've become our modern day mythological characters. People the world over are entranced by them.

Just like with Ragnarok, the genre keep reinventing itself

The superhero genre hangs on a few iconic roles. Jackman as Wolverine. RDJ as Iron Man. Evans as Captain America. Hemsworth as Thor. Hiddleston as Loki. Nobody cares about the others because they are (and have been) interchangeable. Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, huge heroes but anyone can play them. When the iconic ones are unseated for whatever reason, that is the most likely time we will see superhero fatigue. Also because Hollywood isn't going to wait years after these actors stop playing their iconic roles. If they did (like Reeve with Superman) then they could pick up later and not see too much of a dip.

^That's also a good point. It would be tough to replace Jackman and RDJ but not so much for Evans and Hemsworth. I believe Evans is not going to play CA after Infinity Wars and that most likely goes for Hemsworth as well.

I do not think that they will continue to have solo movies for CA and Thor after these actors leave or maybe give them a contract to do cameos just like RDJ is doing for Iron Man in most of MCU movies. There might also be cases where the already know MCU characters will take over the costume which might not result in any visible drop.

Disney is just going to keep playing mix n match with their characters (that's what the new Thor movie is) until they start flopping in earnest. Then they'll wait a few years and reboot, and start the cycle again.

Expect a Doctor Strange/Black Panther crossover in the near future, or maybe Spider-Man and Ant-Man (insect themed?). Who knows. They're going to MILK it. Same with Star Wars. Disney is like cancer to creativity and originality.

I wouldn't call reigniting a genre as MILKing it, plus in each phase they are still introducing new characters and trying different movies. Star Wars though I agree they will milk that cow as much as possible.

I never get fatigued from good movies. Keep churning out quality films that happen to be SH flicks and they will come.

Yeah its only the quality that matters as MCU has shown. If the movies are upto the mark audience will follow regardless of the tried and tested formula.
