Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 predictions
Agreed. I think there's enough goodwill and legacy audience available to rebound ala Fast and Furious 4.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 predictions
I'd more interested in the budget for this one, they needed to have serious budget cutbacks even if its making a lot of money in OS.

Keira Knightley is officially in this. She's featured in the international trailer.

Brenton Thwaites is only 5 years younger than Keira Knightley.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 predictions
I thought Orlando and Keira were both gonna be main players again. I think this franchise could have rebounded well (in America) if they had them and stuck with the Sparrowless marketing,

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 predictions
I wonder what the ceiling on this movie is - like if they did absolutely everything right and made the most amazing movie of all time, would it even still break $200 million?

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 predictions
Ceiling is probably what the last one made.
Floor is probably 150m.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 predictions
I think a VERY well Pirates movie has the potential for a $300m+ with great legs but I don't think this will be the one. The sequels are unable to capture the magic of the original which had a simple yet convoluted story.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 predictions
Really not feeling this. Unreasonable to think it could open under $70m?

If it misses 150m it will be a mild surprise.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 predictions
It seems like the range for this is $150m-$200m. If it does either side of that, it's doing well or doing very badly.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 predictions
Most of those I know who want to see this could care less about the plot - they just want to see a drunk Depp making faces and stumbling over himself. I do wonder if there is a disconnect with the youth - it all feels like a series past its prime. Hoping it's a lot better than I expect.

Impressions I've read online are that it's much better than the fourth; if that leads to good reviews, I could see this doing really well. Pirates 1 is still one of the most fondly remembered blockbusters of the 2000s, so people might be enticed by an entry that promises to be good.

I don't think Pirates is dead in the water (pardon the pun), but really needs a good rebound product.
