Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 predictions
tracking at the beginning of the month was 90-100m. Now that doesn't mean it will make that much but Disney films are good at matching or exceeding trackng

$208.4 million overseas estimated opening weekend (12th biggest ever). Quite strong, honestly, and could result in a $600 million+ overseas total.
I'm sure Disney will be satisfied with a $750 million or so worldwide total. $800 million might even be doable if key markets hold well enough and Japan delivers in July.

Before the initial teaser was well received, I thought Pirates might have done 50m OW, so I think this opening is fine considering how played out the franchise is. It should hit about 165m total.

Here's hoping the legs are good. It is a MUCH better movie than the OST. I don't think it will have enough legs to do $200m but a $180m can still happen with a 2.4 multiplier from $75m 4-day weekend.
It did pretty well in OS markets but it was also released in almost all markets so that was expected. Atleast its not following Alice 2's route in OS markets.

I'd argue On Stranger Tides is a better, more focused, creative film, but it does seem DMTNT scratches the itch for those who hate the fourth film because it doesn't feature the same characters.

OST is more focused in what sense? It is surely more creative but its definitely not focused. DMTNT has very small lens and its focus is much sharper with lesser convoluted plot-line.

It's very much it's own standalone film, whereas DMTNT is constantly trying to tie into the original trilogy, but not really.

Since when is that lack of focus? I thought being standalone has more to do with creativity than focus.
