As bad as May looks I think there is a potential to have a $100m grosser every weekend (King Arthur, Alien: Covenant, Pirates, Baywatch) specially when it looks like that GotG2 won't hog the entire month like Avengers movies did.

Why is Transformers a lock but Pirates isn't?

Johnny Depp is at a pretty bad place in his career right now. It will probably hit $100m but then again Alice really seemed like a lock too.

I think it's pretty clear there's more interest in Pirates than Transformers, but whatever.

Yep both movies should either be lock or not. I don't think Transformers is in a better place than Pirates, plus both are driven by OS and as Chippy pointed out both franchises have had similar runs aside from threequels but that mean more stability for Pirates in the end.

Could be first turd from Nolan ;)

2nd movie of the year and of Disney to cross this mark in just 2 two days, both did it comfortably.

I wonder now if Alien Covenant can sneak in. I am sure King Arthur isn't going to come close. Also Snatched should mostly miss this mark, but you never know it could leg its away to the mark similar to Trainwreck.

Don't know if I can predict but here it is:

My guess for the end of the year is that;

1. Split (19)
2. The Lego Batman Movie (11)
3. Fifty Shades Darker (16)
4. Logan (5)
5. Get Out (16)
6. Beauty and the Beast (2)
7. Kong: Skull Island (9)
8. The Boss Baby (14)
9. The Fate of the Furious (4)
10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2)
11. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales after 8-10 days
12. Alien: Covenant after 17+ days
13. Wonder Woman after 3-7 days
14. Cars 3 after 10 days
15. Transformers: The Last Knight after 5-7 days
16. Despicable Me 3 after 3/4 days
17. Spider-Man: Homecoming after 3 days
18. War for the Planet of the Apes after 8/9 days
19. Dunkirk after 10+ days
20. It after 10+ days
21. Kingsman: The Golden Circle 10-17 days
22. Ninjago after 17+ days
23. Blade Runner 2049 after 17+ days
24. Thor: Ragnarok after 6/7 days
25. Justice League after 2 days
26. Coco after 10+ days
27. Star Wars: The Last Jedi after 1-1.5 days
28/29 in 2018 are probably Pitch Perfect 3 and maybe Jumanji

There is a chance Baywatch could do it after 20+ days too if it can open like I am expecting Alien: Covenant to ($42-45 million) but over the 4 day (obviously after 24+ days). Could be up to 30+ including Baywatch or 29+ excluding.

At the current rate I think we should see 32 movies above this mark.

These will get there, imo.

Pirates
Baywatch
Wonder Woman
Captain Underpants
Cars
Transformers
Despicable Me
Spider Man
Apes
Dunkirk
Emoji
Dark Tower (will open low but crawl there due to no competition)
It
Ninjago
Kingsman
Blade Runner
Bad Moms
Thor
Justice League
Coco
Ferdinand
Star Wars
Pitch Perfect
Jumanji

And a few Oscar contenders like MOTOE, Battle of the Sexes, Suburbicon and the Greatest Showman on Earth.

I do not see Battle of the Sexes grossing over $100m. I see it as being a good film but a $30m-55m grossing one, depending on release.

I feel that Greatest Showman on Earth will surprise and get past $100m. Jackman is already an early Oscar contender and he is unfortunately not getting in for Logan so this might be his nomination role which will help its BO.

Well, looks like both Alien and Baywatch are missing 100m.

I notice it has Zac Efron in it, so he's probably going to spoil any chances of it doing well in any way.

Eh. It might not be significant role and Effron in non-comedic roles is a non-factor.

I do not believe Efron is "box office poison". He's just gone the route of many young chaps with not a great deal of thespian talent....he makes comedies. Probably the movies he enjoys himself. It is just that the films he stars in are often crap. But he certainly is not the reason people are turning away from Baywatch. It looks crap. That's why people are not bothering with it.
