Yeah, it is refreshing to see summer movies opening in winter. Potter/LOTR/Hobbit/Avatar, for me, are winter tent-poles. SW and Jumanji are summer films.

The first Jumanji came out in December though. I thought it was a bit of a disappointment back then even though it adjusts to over $200m now.

Yeah, but the first Jumanji didn't star The Rock. For me he makes this look and feel like a summer blockbuster.

I don't think PP3 will do much outside of holidays. It needs additional $30m from an estimated $18m which was boosted by holidays

The Holiday (similar female-oriented film) dropped big after NYE and still made a 2.96 multiplier after its 4th weekend at $6.7m. If that follows that trajectory, it will squeak by $100M barely. It's not impossible yet. Still, it will still be off by more than $80M of the second one.

I don't think this will do as well. The Holiday had some awards help back then if I remember correctly

It won 0 awards at the oscars and golden globes. The next weekend will determine where pp3s chances at 100m are at but it’s not out of the question.

Greatest Showman actually has a slight chance to make 100m. It's getting pretty decent WoM and the soundtrack is gonna be #1 on the upcoming Billboard charts.

So with Greatest Showman and PP3 getting to $100m - that would make it 33 for the year which is quite good. The only other film that can make it would be The Post which has a 50/50 shot though looking less likely.

Great to see Jumanji and Greatest Showman both having incredible runs. This is something the holidays were missing in 2017 but a great start for 2018.

I now think The Post has an outside chance to reach the mark. Who would have thought that TGS would handily beat PP3, which should also join this list by next weekend.

33 films hitting the mark is quite good. The only other hope is The Post and possibly I,Tonya if it breaks out in a major way when i goes wide (though unlikely)
