Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald predictions
To be released on November 16th, 2018.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is on its way to a better multiplier than all Harry Potter sequels. Only Sorcerer's Stone will end up with better legs, it seems. WoM seems to be positive. I don't think this is another The Hobbit situation. The first sequel should at least have a higher opening weekend.
Opening Weekend - $85 million
Total Gross - $240 million

Re: Fantastic Beasts 2 predictions
It seems to me that it is well liked, but not enough to see a significant increase barring a heavy focus on Dumbledore and Grindelwald in the marketing.
I think your prediction sounds about right.

Re: Fantastic Beasts 2 predictions
I don't think people really care about Dumbledore or Grindelwald. The Potter base is what it is now. So Beasts 2 will have a higher opening, same total.

Re: Fantastic Beasts 2 predictions
So the first one managed to pass $800 million. That's really quite great.
If this is also able to pass at least 700m WW then I think the franchise is in good shape. Domestically I see the sequel passing 200m but not close to the first. It'll be interesting to see what this new one will focus on more.

I'm thinking the second will drop a bit but be a better movie, and the third will rebound, especially if Dumbledore will have a big part.

Aren't Dumbledore and Grindelwald supposed to be around the same age?

This is pretty groundbreaking. Isn't this going to be the first gay romance in a blockbuster? And in a fantasy movie? And in a family friendly movie?

Re: Fantastic Beasts 2 predictions
I honestly don't know about other people, but the mere presence of Hogwarts and Dumbledore in the trailer got me way more hyped than any of the marketing for the original. Add in the fact there are no Star Wars or Marvel films to steal its thunder, and I'd say it at the very least matches the original if not sees an increase.
My current prediction would be
90/280

WB's will make sooooo much dough when the original trio return circa 2023

I heard there were 6 films in this series. My gosh what a cash cow.

Re: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald predictions
I feel it will loose some audience from the last movie where people were excited to see a new Wizarding World movie but the trailer is also much better and showing Dumbledore would only help.
$70m/$200m total

I thought it was opposite. FB underperformed huge on opening weekend.

Re: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald predictions
I haven't seen the trailer, but the audience for these films is pretty loyal. Making it more Harry Potter-esque will only help. It has to increase domestically. No way it drops.

I thought the latest trailer looked pretty magical, can see this getting close to 300m domestically.

I am also basing the drop with HP2 falling from HP1 in OW and total.
