I blame it on the writer, straight guys got scared off to go see a film with the word "Cocks" on the poster.

In my market it has had the most miserable release schedule I've ever seen. Except for the arthouse downtown, it is playing one screening a day in a handful of theatres, and this single screening is at the very latest possible start time in each theatre. Has Martin Scorcese made some enemies in the film distribution business? Is it offending some powerful religious group? I was finally able to make some time to go see it this Thursday, but I honestly have never known a high profile movie to be treated like this.

When the marketing sells a film as some director's "passion project", you know it's going to be a career low for that director box-office wise.

Well, I thought this would connect with both the artsy and religious crowds. But they did not seem to care to reach the latter. And the film never really went wide. My theater gave it only one showtime daily.
