I just looked at the 2017 schedule again and March is just insane.

Inm March we have Logan, Kong: Skull Island, Beauty and the Beast, Power Rangers, King Arthur and Ghost in the Shell. Not sure how much Ghost in the Shell cost, but the rest all carry budgets north of $100 million. When was the last time we had five or maybe six $100+ million budgeted movies released within one month in the spring? That's just crazy. At least two of them will severely underwhelm.

And then look at August, the month that has givenm us Guardians of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the past. This year it has:

Alien: Covenant (R-rated)
Blazing Samurai (Open Road animated flick)
Emoji Movie: Express Yourself (animated film opening the same weekend)
CHiPs
Baby Driver
The Hitman's Bodyguard (starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds)
Villa Capri

That is...pathetic. Emoji Movie could pull a The LEGO Movie of course, but other than that, I see little potential. Fox positioned Alien: Covenant as the big live-action blockbuster, but this franchise has never been huge and with a hard R-rating and without any big stars Alien: Covenant will be lucky to make $120 million.

Power Rangers or Ghost in the Shell really needs to move to August. King Arthur cannot be saved, no matter when it opens.

Dark Tower could have gone there and positioned itself as the last big sunmer movie. But they decided to go in between Dunkirk and Alien.

I didn't know Baby Driver had also been pushed back.

Eh, I am not sure I see Alien as a big summer movie, so, in a way, The Dark Tower still is.

Wow I had no idea August was that bad, but now that you mention it I do think Power Rangers or Ghost in the Shell should move there. King Arthur will flop no matter where it goes.

With Alien: Covenant gone, August has got prtetty much nothing left with big potential. Ghost in the Shell would make a killing there.

Obviously there has to be a major move or two. Cannot imagine August being anchored by the Emojimovie and Dax Shepard doing CHiPs.

Ghost in the Shell and King Arthur should both move there. Probably Life and Annabelle 2 would be better there too.

Why doesn't Warner push Wonder Woman to the first weekend of August? It could clean up lilke Suicide Squad and remain #1 for 3-4 weeks.

August is a wasteland now. I wouldn't be surprised if Warner Bros decided to move Blade Runner there since Kingsman 2 has moved to it's spot, but we will just have to wait and see. I personally think Power Rangers or Ghost in the Shell would do even better in that month now that Alien: Covenant is gone, however it's all up to the studios.

Good guess. King Arthur was moved to 12. May and Life is now set to open on 24. March. Annabelle 2 was moved to 11. August.

This year had Suicide Squad. Right now there is no $200+ million lock released in August 2017, let alone a $300+ million candidate.
