Going up against Dunkirk was a big mistake. In August this could've had a fighting chance to at least do decent. Agreed 100% on the August idea. I think it's not just Dunkirk that hurts Valerian though. Spider-Man and Apes will be tough competition for both Valerian and Dunkirk to deal with.

Many studios let a huge opportunity slip away this August. Now Dark Tower will probably make undeserved money because of no competition.

^ That's not guaranteed yet. If it doesn't have good reviews then it might not end up doing bad.

This could all the positive reviews in the world and it still wouldn't make much of a difference IMO. I still don't see it crossing more than $20M OW.

It has a very modest number of screenings in my market, with what appears to be no premium screens (except for crappy 4DX).

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
Quote: Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp has posted a loss of $83 million (€70.6 million) for the first half of its 2017-2018 financial year. The loss figure is nearly three times higher than it was during the same period of the last financial year – which culminated in record losses of $135 million.
EuropaCorp primarily blamed the results on the poor theatrical performance of movies it distributed in the U.S., notably “The Circle” and “Their Finest,” as well as the “disappointing U.S. box-office revenues for sci-fi epic “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,” said the report.
Directed by Besson with a budget in the range of $180 million, “Valerian” tanked in the U.S., grossing only $40.5 million. It went on to gross $225.16 million worldwide. The movie nevertheless yielded strong international sales business that allowed the company to boost its revenues by 77.5% to €138.1 million. http://variety.com/2017/film/global/eur ... 202642426/
