Some people will react that way. Some people won't.

And by that I mean, not just that millennials have nostalgic memories of watching it when they were kids; they now as even as adults actively enjoy the movie itself. It's not just "beloved" or "nostalgic;" it's actually still considered cool. Wouldn't that also be a negative for the film? People loving the original...boycotting the remake? Yeah that's what I'm thinking. In fact I think the overwhelming reaction when the trailer comes out will be "why did they have to remake with CGI animals??". Disney's greed is already starting to backfire (Solo) and I hope it continues. Dude I was hoping the same thing for Beauty & the Beast. Why remake a perfect film? But people ate that shit up and then ate some more. Enter Lion King. THE most beloved and cherished. They're gonna make it look hella pretty and mind blowing. They've got the dopest black actors to voice the characters. People are going to lose their tits over this movie. That first trailer is going to make everybody's prostate quiver with submissive acceptance. You have to give Disney your money for this one bro, it's not even an option. I don’t understand why almost the entire voice cast is black. Is Disney insinuating something??...

Well it takes place in Africa. Did you see any white people in Wakanda?

Uh huh. Why do you have an issue with a mostly black voice cast? The original had a mostly white voice cast.

I just don’t like that Beyonce is in it. Donald Glover will do a great job.

You do know that Donald Glover is just as liberal as Beyonce, right?

How many of her 6 films have you seen? Her 1 voice acting film? Does one have to be a good actor to do a voice?
What does her supposed narcissism have to do with watching a movie? How is she obnoxious? She's rarely active on social media, and doesn't do a ton of interviews (lately). Are you just annoyed because she's a strong, black woman? Is she going to sing the Lion King songs in a hip hop style? Because they were pretty poppy in the original.

I don't really have an 'issue' with it, I like most of the people in this new one (Beyonce is a good choice because she can actually sing so no Emma Watson 2.0 situation), I'm just wondering why. It's obviously a deliberate choice. I don't know of any other animated films starring talking animals that have had all the main characters cast with black voice actors. The only white voice actors are the ones portraying the comic relief (Timon, Pumba, Zazu). I'm just wondering what is the reasoning for it.

You know the reason for it. It's set in Africa and Africans are black, and Disney wants NOTHING to go wrong with this film, so they are avoiding any "whitewashing controversy" like the fucking plague.

But that's precisely what I don't get. Whitewashing? This is a movie about animals from the savannah.

November sounds about right for the TLK trailer. I wonder if they'll replicate the original's opening scene trailer? And it still mystifies me that even after the Star Wars lesson, Disney is willing to open live action remakes of the highest grossing films of 1992 and1994 in the same summer! Just two months apart!

I didn't realize Aladdin was opening two months before this. That's going to affect the demand and gross. Downward

Makes absolutely no sense to put their two most iconic nineties renaissance animation movies so close to each other.

Surely TLK will move back a year?
2 months between Dumbo and Aladdin and another 2 months to TLK can't possibly remain.

Idk, Black Panther and Infinity War were only two-ish months apart. And Ant-Man/Wasp only two-ish months after Infinity War.

Re: The Lion King (live-action) over 750m domestic club
I think Secret Life of Pets 2 and Toy Story 4 are a bigger issue for Lion King. Avengers, Pikachu, Aladdin in May is already crazy, but then two more $300m+ grossers in June? And then there's Spider-Man on July 4th which has huge family appeal. It's too many four quadrant uber blockbusters before it. Families can't spend $80 on a night out (that's what it costs for four people w/ popcorn and drinks in a big city) eight times during the summer. Coming last it will not maximize its gross. Remember that Jungle Book and Beauty came out in March.
And before you laugh at me for including Detective Pikachu in that list, do you really think the first live action Pokemon film isn't going to be a big deal? When the trailer gets 100m views don't act surprised.

Lots of hints out there that the trailer is dropping during an NFL game on FOX tomorrow.
