It's being produced by Haim Saban, the original US series creator, and directed by Dean Isrealite who directed the underrated time travel movie Project Almanac. I think this one's going to surprise. $80m domestic and a sequel greenlighted on the strength of the WW total.

The teaser is decent, but nothing that indicates it will breakout. I think sub $50M is a bit too low, although I doubt it goes past $100M. For some reason I see this doing Pacific Rim numbers at best.

He's not wondering why the current one doesn't have going for it, he's asking why the old films didn't do much in their time, when the franchise arguably was relevant back in its day. It's okay, I'm pretty sure all of that was well before you first pooped your diapers.

Personally I think because old movies always looked like the regular supersized episodes. The effects weren't better, the story was the same basic template that every episode uses. Nothing new to bring people to theaters to see it.

I actually think this one could do good. It's definitely a more serious take on the Power Rangers. I'm actually slightly looking forward to it.

The teaser confirmed my expectations. It does look much better than the trashy "good when I was a kid, but I wouldn't want to see it now" TV/old movies effects. So it could pull the audience to the theaters.

March is looking super-crowded, and I myself think the movie looks kind of cheap, but a looooot of my regular pleb friends eagerly posted the trailer this morning, and all of them seem genuinely excited for this. This is honestly more likely to make over $50 million in its opening weekend than less than $50 million in its entire run.

It has a no-name cast, I really don't think it will be good, like sub 30% on rotten, can't see it opening at more than $20m.

It looks crap but LG's record with teen flicks is still good. I don't see it crossing $100m but $50m-$60m total is where I am at right now.

I'm OUT. Would have joined the former club though.

Tough call. If it stays in its current spot, yes. If there are some more shakeups and it winds up in the summer I think it would probably get to $60m.

The trailer for this has 20 million views on youtube, and a second version has 13 million views. More than any Fantastic Beasts trailer, and that opened to 75 million.

I just watched the trailer again and it looks every bit like Fantastic Four, which made $56mil. There's just no way that this does better, worse opening and no better legs is not going to get this over $50mil.
