Power Rangers - Below $50m Club FAILED
I'm getting a Gods of Egypt / Pacific Rim vibe. Did anybody really ask for this? It's had its day. It was a fun, oddball fad back in the 90s. But does anyone really care about Power Rangers anymore? Is there even any nostalgia for the Power Rangers, or are they just seen purely as a product of a specific time in the 90s? I don't see people looking back fondly on the movies or TV shows. More likely they are looking back with an embarrassed "can't believe I loved that" guilty pleasure. It costs $120m, so they are probably expecting a $100m total, at least. But I just don't see it getting any traction whatsoever. It all looks so cheesy and dated. It was good that they went with an unknown cast (Cranston/Banks won't attract many non-fans) because adding stars to this would inflate an already-inflated budget. The first movie made $38m, and less than two years later the second made a paltry $8m. The first adjusts to $76m, which is why I originally made this club below $75m, as I don't believe the Power Rangers is anywhere near as popular as it was back in the 90s, and this film's CGI effects, end of March release date, big movie status etc. will not change that. I grew some balls and think it will even struggle to reach $50m. Who's with me? IN - 6 Algren stuffp Steve the lesser evil lesterg Dr. Lecter OUT - 2 zwackerm - $100mpublicenemy#1 - $80m

Also, I hate how they've got all their bases covered. White, Hispanic, Asian, black. Two female, three males. No white Ranger.
The posters so far look like any other crappy teen blockbuster. Of course, I won't be totally sure until I see a trailer, but it doesn't look good so far, and I see it being ignored by everyone.

Hard to believe it would even come close to $75m. Out.

Hmm. Not a lot of reasoning. Just a straight-up "no". Not very convincing. You might as well just say "Baa". It would be clearer.

I think this is definitely not happening. It'll open big enough to gross over $80m.

I wouldn't be surprised if it made sub-50. Has this even been a relevant franchise in 20 years? stuffp wrote: Hard to believe it would even come close to $75m. Out. This... sounds very much like you don't think it'll make $75 million?

I feel like they're not making this for the US audience anyway. Whatever they get there is good.

Algren wrote: Gods of Egypt / Pacific Rim vibe That's a range of $30m - $100m. Surely I think it will get closer to a God of Egypt type of number. This club could be below $50m and I would still be in, but at this point it could be close if we consider a +-10% margin.

Re: Power Rangers - Below $50m Club
Fuck it. Changed to 'Below $50m'. If it finishes with $65m, I don't want any of this "well, the thread was a half-success" bullshit. No. This is now a 'Below $50m' club. So, who's in?

In. It's Lionsgate, which means it will be terrible and marketed poorly.
And sure, plenty of kids enjoy Power Rangers - but they have roughly 800 episodes to enjoy on Netflix, Nickelodeon, Hulu, etc. You can't escape it as a parent.

Re: Power Rangers - Below $50m Club
Lol this is gonna perform more like TMNT (the first one) than an uber flop but I guess we need to see the trailer first. There is an audience for this.

Re: Power Rangers - Below $50m Club
Given the show's huge success for years, I've always found it curious how little the 90s films made.
What did TMNT, Rugrats, and Pokemon have (as lucrative theatrical releases) that Power Rangers didn't?

He's not wondering why the current one doesn't have going for it, he's asking why the old films didn't do much in their time, when the franchise arguably was relevant back in its day. It's okay, I'm pretty sure all of that was well before you first pooped your diapers.

The effects weren't better, the story was the same basic template that every episode uses. Nothing new to bring people to theaters to see it. I actually think this one could do good. It's definitely a more serious take on the Power Rangers. I'm actually slightly looking forward to it.
