Black people will not turn up just because it is a black character. The actor playing him is an unknown, unlike Benedict Cumberbatch. And I would disagree that we have "met and liked" Black Panther. He feels like the most inconsequential element of Civil War ... the type of character that a comic-book would suffice in showing his origin story, not a hundred-million dollar movie. It should do well over OW and Marvel movies have been getting bigger out-of-the-gate anyways. Even Ant-Man did relatively great with $57m OW and I think this isn't as niche as that character.

Re: Black Panther (2/16/18) Predictions It should be good for at least Ant-Man numbers though I suspect $200-$230m total is very much in play. Marvel is a much bigger brand than it was in 2011 when Thor and Cap opened so a $80-$90m opening is likely.

Re: Black Panther (2/16/18) Predictions I think that allure won't exist or that element won't register as a must-see. It was already eaten into with Hancock. Not to mention large black roles in other big superhero films, such as Nick Fury (MCU), Heimdall (Thor, Thor: The Dark World), The Human Torch (Fantastic Four), and Kingpin (Daredevil).

The marketing does seem to be targeting that demo-graph though and that could make this bigger than Thor, CA, Ant-Man, plus BP was introduced well in CA:CW so that base of the demo is already covered.

All you half to do is go on Twitter,IG, and youtube and see the reactions from that demo since the trailer dropped friday. They are pretty much shitting there pants. Hell Marvel fans are to. This will be Big and Marvel is playing it just right. Black Panther will be to black people what Wonder Woman was to women. I mean that is like saying Wonder woman would not be a must see for women because of Electra, Super Woman on tv or all the women super heros in the X Man films. Its an enitre diffrent story when the enitre movie is dedicated to the one character.

Re: Black Panther (2/16/18) Predictions The character might not be as well known as Wonder Woman or any other DC character, but ya'll should know by now to never doubt the Disney marketing machine. Marvel has already turned C list heroes into A listers before and unlike most of those movies this one actually has a great hook. They will definitely play up the first, true black superhero movie angle and the fact that it comes out during Black History Month.
