So what are our benchmarks for success/failure?

Mine are:

Success - $90+ mil OW, $240+ mil Total, 60+% RT Score

Failure - <$65 mil OW, <$200 mil Total, <50% RT Score

Expect - $115 mil OW, $310 mil Total, 65% RT Score

Success OW - anything above 100m
Success RT - anything above 60% (huge compared to BvS & SS)
Success Domestic total - anything above 250m

Anything less is a failure for me

I expect 120m OW, 75% RT, 330m domestic

Having seen it, I would not expect better than 70% RT, and 65% may be realistic. It's an overall enjoyable movie, but there's some big issues that I suspect will push plenty of critics into that "rotten" territory.

Opening - below 69 would be bad
70-90 - okay
91-110 - decent/good
111-125 - great
125+ - terrific

Looks like T-Mobile is having a promotion for this, $4 tickets for the weekend. For Suicide Squad they did free tickets for Friday only.

I'm a little concerned with the Thursday preview being slightly muted, because of the NBA Finals Game 1. But I think Sunday shouldn't be too affected since Game 2 isn't until 5pm.

I think a major thing that this has going for it is that it seems like it's being looked at like more than a movie. Like it's a moment. Did everyone see the turnout for the Women's March? Now if they can channel that energy to the film... watch out.

They make films starring women all the time. Even action films. Even superhero films, however crappy Supergirl, Catwoman and Elektra were.

Wasn't this reception obvious? Oppose this film and you're immediately a male chauvinist. It is the same reason that Ghostbusters was certified fresh at 73%. They're on a different scale. The feminist film floor is 60%. I don't say they would give a positive grade to a completely crap film, but if there's any pro-female film that is on the fence or just average, I believe the fact that it is a feminist film will tip it over into positive for fear of accusatory remarks. I suspect the critics had a fine time at the cinema, but 97% makes it seem like another Dark Knight.

I bet Theron is hoping and praying that the feminist goodwill carries on long enough to help her shit-fest, Atomic Blonde.

Being part of the DCEU probably also helps, like the critic's equivalent of Stockholm Syndrome. Or having been fed shit sandwiches for over a year, then being given just a plain piece of bread and feeling like it's the best thing ever.

OK, everything is going this movie's way. The marketing has been great and constant for a while now, there have only been two legit blockbusters in the last two months (the last of which is entering weekend #5), reviews are great and will keep buzz strong and indicates that it should be a crowd-pleaser, and it just feels like a Movie of the Moment.

That's it, this is winning the summer.

Friday: $63.1 million ($19.2 million previews)
Saturday: $48 million
Sunday: $33.5 million

Opening Weekend: $144.6 million
Domestic Total: $420.2 million (2.91)
Worldwide Total: $901 million

DCEU has enormous characters that everyone knows. It would be difficult to not produce three straight $325m+ films ... which has been proven. They've made crap films yet they've still managed that figure. The real test will be if Aquaman can also make $325m or a solo Cyborg film. Virtually impossible. Yet in Marvel town....they've made their second-string characters into tentpole films making $300m+.

Aquaman will do great if he gets great reception in JL(his trailer reception has been fantastic). Plus James Wan will make a crowd pleaser. I dont see 300m but 250m can happen for sure.

Cyborg will probably not have a solo flick. I could see him part of a flash movie(didn't snyder allude to that) but as a solo flick its not feasible. Will bomb big time.

Green Lantern Corps with a good director also has tremendous potential. I dont have a great feeling about shazam(even with Rock) and MOS2 will drop from previous film.
