Re: Wonder Woman predictions
Yeah this has a lot going for it. It looks good, the character is iconic and it has the female superhero angle too.
Much like SS, it also feels fresh and a bit of an antidote to the MoS/BvS/JL negativity.
Plus summer 2017 is fairly weak.
OW - $105m Total - $300m

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
I know its a topic for another thread but Summer 2017 has never recovered from SW Ep 7 moving out (and to a lesser extent TS4). POTC4 will be another ID4R/Ice Age 4. If only WW takes the Memorial Weekend slot.
Have no idea what to make of Baywatch.

Wonder Woman is going to open huge. Low 100s feels just that. Low.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
The CC footage is getting a lot of praise, so I wouldn't be surprised by a $100M+ opening. It's even more impressive when you think that despite the negativity Warner Bros could have back to back MEGA openers.

I don't think Black Widow solo movie would work. She feels like such a throwaway character.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
I think an origins film of Black Widow as a spy would have worked, and probably wouldn't require it to cost tons of money. Oh well.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
Yeah I'm glad they didn't make a Black Widow movie. I like the character but she works better as part of the team. Captain Marvel should be a big hit even if it does come after WW.

I heard last night that this is in REALLY rough shape. There was a screening at Warner Bros., and when the lights came up and a general "What'd you think?" question was asked, a lot of people groaned.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
I'm really hoping it was just a bad crowd. I'm cheering so hard for this movie -- cool character, cool trailer, a chance to really advance DC films.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
It really depends on reviews. Suicide Squad seemed to have a bit more hype than this and probably would have cleared 150 OW if it had strong reviews. If this has stronger, at least comparatively, reviews, it should open on par with Suicide Squad. If it has as weak reviews, we are probably looking at 115m.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
I'd lock up a $100M+ opening for this, but if reviews are bad and wom is lackluster than I don't see it getting to $300M.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
Yeesh. We will probably get news about reshoots. Lather rinse repeat...
If this gets at least decent reviews I could see it beating BvS. 100m opening is totally happening but they really need a film that doesn't lead to bitching from everyone.

Club said he had also seen a test screening of this, and he said his audience LOVED the movie. So I'm hoping that this was just a case of a bad crowd and Warner Bros. doesn't much it up with unnecessary and extensive reshoots. Mad Max: Fury Road also had some bad test screenings, I believe, and that turned out great.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
Noticed this while looking up Dunkirk stuff...
This is going to be categorized as a WW1 movie. No WW1 movie has ever made over $80 mil in total. It will be the first WW1 movie since 2011, only the 6th WW1 movie this century, and only the 10th WW1 movie in the last 50 years.
Why do people not make more WW1 movies?

Why do people not make more WW1 movies? No Nazi? Probably because WW2 was a much bigger war.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
Yeah, that seems obvious.
Although for what it was, there do seem awfully few films about it.
I guess, that the US weren't really (at all?) involved has something to do Hollywood not paying attention to it too.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
The USA were part of the war but tried to stay out of it for as long as possible. They entered in 1917. I think the main reason for less films being made is simple; no Hitler.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
No Hitler. No genocide. Much smaller scale as it was mainly based on European soil while WW2 also added Africa and Asia to its full extent. (Just compare the size of battles in Gaza or Beersheba to the ones in Belgium or France). The weapons weren't as impressive as the ones in WW2 (V1 and V2, Manhattan Project, ...). Battles were mainly held in open fields and not in cities like in WW2.

Re: Wonder Woman predictions
Yes, automatic rifles/sub-machine guns, all that crowd, weren't used as extensively as in WWII, which isn't as fun to put on screen.
