A question for the forum:
What is the more likely non-SW/Disney film to gross $600+ million?
An existing franchise
or
Original IP

Original IP Literally the only films that weren't part of a franchise and have grossed 600m+ are James Cameron films. It'll probably be part of a franchise.

Well of those franchise movies, 5 of 8 are Avengers or SW. Based on the list, would probably have to be a reboot or an ensemble like Avengers. A breakout like Black Panther will probably be rare. I don't really see anything besides Disney doing it anytime soon. Disney could get two more this summer.

Yeah, the only foreseeable ones I see hitting the mark are Lion Kinh, Frozen 2 and possibly Episode 9 if it plays like a finale.
Next year we may not even get a 600m+ film. If MCU slate is Black Widow and Eternals I don't think either will be that huge.

After Episode 9 opens, The Batman is the most anticipated film of the next 2 years.
If it's any good, it will top $600m. The desire for that character to be awesome again is huge.

Never rule a run of 70/850 for TENET

Excel wrote: Never rule a run of 70/850 for TENET A multiplier of 12+ ? Its ruled out. Inception had amazing WoM and dropped less than 40% for first 12 weekends and it still didn't cross 5+ multiplier. Unless Tenet opens MUCH bigger 850 is ruled out. Even $600m is out unless it opens above TDK.

Well, with a running time of 2 hr 45 min, IT: Part 2's chances of getting anywhere near the $600m club got alot lower.

Probably no one expected it but it’s the best candidate this year. After TROS I don’t see any potential $600m grosser, no matter the studio, until Avatar in late 2021 (unless Black Panther 2 is a 2021 release). It’ll be a dark horse that surprises.

Boop These 2 being the only MCU films next year is weird. Would love it but don't see WW1984 doing above 500m. If it's totally amazing though who knows.

1984 should make ~$450M which will be enough to win the domestic year barring a mega Tenet breakout. Wonder Woman’s legs will be impossible to repeat, so it’d need around $220M opening to hit $600M and I just can’t see it.

Does A Quiet Place 2 have $250-300 mil potential?

Boop On the real, these are the only plausible 600m grossers for the next few years: The Batman Avatar 2 Black Panther 2 Next Avengers film maaaybe an A-Force movie if they ever do it, or if it's CM2 Maybe we get a crazy surprise but idk.

I don't think The Batman is doing it just based on how BvS and Justice League performed. The character is a bit damaged once again like it was after Batman and Robin (although nowhere near that bad). Audiences have had two major versions in the last decade and I think they're a bit burnt out to bring this that high.
