Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
Yeah I am more in the $100m-$110m range. Thor 2 is/was not liked by a lot of people and they seem to be targeting a different kind of audience with those trailers which could work but it will also result in a lot of die-hard fans waiting for the WoM to get out.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
Previous Thor movies mean fuck-all because this movie looks totally different. They've upped the game and this will contend for $350m. Thor has just reached Iron Man's level.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
I don't think Thor reaches IM's level because of few great trailers.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
As much as I hate being one of those guys that over predicts a Marvel movie based on internet hype it is pretty fucking crazy that the new trailer is doing better than the JL trailer on YouTube. Of course it's likely the same thing won't happen at the box-office, but that just goes to show you how insanely anticipated this movie is. Justice League will still provide some major competition for it, but I'm upping my prediction to $115M/275.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
I think opening weekend range will be 130-135m. 2.4 multiplier from a 130m opening would be a 312m finish, which sounds pretty ridiculous for a third Thor film but the hype and interest is there.
The director said at Comic Con the current cut is 100 minutes long, will be interesting to see if that holds.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
That does seem rather short, but it also means more showtimes per day.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
I don't think it stays at 100 minutes runtime, that's just too short and Marvel movies are all 2 hours long.

I know the market was in a weak place then, but I also believe a lot of it had to do with the goodwill of the Marvel brand and the really positive reviews. This already seems to have a lot more buzz than that movie ever did and if it gets great reviews it's going to explode. And the market will probably be similarly weak when this opens. The only event movies opening in the three months before Thor are It, Kingsman 2, and Blade Runner 2049 - all R-rated. Thor will be the first non-R event movie since Dunkirk, and that should benefit it quite a bit. Worth noting that Spider-Man: Homecoming is already benefiting from the lack of four-quadrant movies - it's been having the best holds lately, and is still in the top 7 after eight weekends. And there is nothing else with that kind of demo appeal between now and Ragnarok. This is gonna open big.
