Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
The brand has only increase since and even the lesser known Marvel superhero's are chugging great numbers. Adding Hulk will only help this so I believe $95m-$100m OW should happen though the legs won't be kind and I don't see it doing more than $250m.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
OW- $120 M Lifetime domestic - $250M Overseas - $400M Marvel will have the most profitable year with two more films releasing beside Thor.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
Thor 2 adjusts to 89m and had way less hype. I think it does 100m at the very least.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
Four of the six sequels in the MCU went over $100 million, and one came within $6 million of the mark. With an extra Avenger in this film and some of the stronger marketing of the franchise, I don't see why $100+ million is unlikely.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
Why would it increase 15% over Thor 2, after poor reception? And adding a character that has proven time and again to not be a draw?

Because its a sequel to Thor 2 in the same way that Civil War was a sequel to the Winter Soldier? All the movies are so intertwined at this point it's hard to say that poor reaction to a film from 2013 is going to have more effect on the opening than the more recent MCU efforts.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
So this is Thor's version of Civil War? If this jumped at the same % that CW jumped from TWS, you'd be looking at a $161 mil OW. Are you predicting that?

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
Is it? Because it adds a character we've seen in multiple stand-alone films which have done less than stellar results?

That's a 17% increase in total. If it has the same legs as Dark World it would need a 104m opening to reach 250m.

I think it will have better legs than Thor 2, slightly. Just trying to keep expectations in line.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok predictions
Doctor Strange had a mediocre marketing campaign IMO, but even that movie opened to $85M. I know the market was in a weak place then, but I also believe a lot of it had to do with the goodwill of the Marvel brand and the really positive reviews. This already seems to have a lot more buzz than that movie ever did and if it gets great reviews it's going to explode.

The only event movies opening in the three months before Thor are It, Kingsman 2, and Blade Runner 2049 - all R-rated. Thor will be the first non-R event movie since Dunkirk, and that should benefit it quite a bit.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-v ... urs-992978Quote: The trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, which was unleashed Monday by Disney, the parent company of Marvel, has garnered more than 136 million views in only 24 hours.
It becomes the not only the most viewed Marvel trailer ever, but also the studio’s most viewed trailer ever across all its brands, which includes Disney’s live-action and animation divisions, Pixar, Star Wars, as well as Marvel.
The Beauty and the Beast trailer was the previous 24 hour record-holder for Disney with 127.6 million views. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was viewed 112 times in that time frame. Captain America: Civil War held the previous Marvel record with 94 million views. I wonder if the Thor/Hulk combo is way bigger than we thought. They were the two parties missing from Civil War, so I wouldn't be surprised if people that much more hyped to see them.

What a gutless post. You're not saying that's not going to happen, but you're also not saying it will. So, basically you're saying nothing, and should probably not post at all. Get in one camp or the other instead of pussy-footing on the rim while still stirring the pot.

Thor with that haircut = $500m+
really interesting to see the neon marketing approach, totally different from the previous thor movies. following the success of Guardians and Suicide Squad
