Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
So Arnold is in this new flick. He's filming right now in Budapest. I wasn't aware of that. And apparently this new one will ignore Rise of the Machines, Salvation, and Genisys, and be a direct sequel to Judgement Day. I guess that was Cameron's suggestion. I think he's involved in some producer capacity.
With all that being said, it will still have a lot to overcome. Firstly, it looks shit. Ok, it's early days, but buzz is at an all-time low. Secondly, the franchise is in a bad place. Genisys and Salvation did a lot of damage. Lastly, it doesn't appear that Arnold's role is big.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
It's hard to say where to go with the Terminator material, but what they're doing now just does not sound good. You'd wish they'd just let it rest, Genisys didn't even make $100m I found out again now domestically, so there really is no demand for it either you'd say. Pretty good performance it still had OS though.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
It definitely rode the brand name overseas, and in some places around the world they do not have the same connection to Terminator that white people countries have, but they do like humour (silly humour), so Genisys was probably a good movie for those countries, hence why it didn't do too badly.
It seems they are going bigger again, and I think that's a bad idea. If it was me, I would try to Loganize the next Terminator movie. Really wipe the slate clean. Start afresh. But Linda Hamilton's hair tells me they aren't going that route.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
The title is currently Terminator: Dark Fate. But as we know it will be anything but dark. Arnold will make a fool of himself once again.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Cameron’s involvement will boost OS but I don’t see a domestic market for the franchise. Even if it is a true spiritual sequel to the first 2 or 3...why did Cameron want to even do this?

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Probably his narcissistic tendencies. I know he was super pissed that Ridley got another chance for Alien and he fucked that up. Cameron was a supporter of Blomp's Aliens sequel, and he himself was many times attached to another Alien film. Him coming back to Terminator (Since it's his baby) makes sense. Plus he's been stuck in Titanic/Avatar/ Battle Angel mode for pretty much the last 25 years.
But he should have directed it.

It's weird that this is the shortest gap between Terminator movies.

This comes off as a bit of a joke really. It will be lucky to get to $80m domestic.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
I'll reserve judgement until I see a trailer. It "may" wow us all. But judging from Genisys, I expect another dog turd of a movie. No wonder the gap between films is so short this time around, they had to rush to try and save the Terminator name (little do they know it's already beyond saving).

Yeah I know there's always a chance it will OK. In fact our expectations are so low that it will probably surprise us. Not holding my breath though.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
The footage they premiered for this at CinemaCon has been getting nothing but raves, but I will remain pessimistic until I see it for myself. I'm at least more curious about it than I was before.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Yeah good poster and tag lines. Certainly basing the marketing around Hamilton's return is a good thing.

Don't expect a huge success, but see it out-opening Genisys and crack a 100m. Hope it does better in China.

As far as domestic though I don't see anything in that so called teaser trailer that convinces me that it will do any better than Genisys though. Maybe it will actually get to $100M this time though if the opening is big enough.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
I'm tired of these overpowered Terminators that can shape shift all over the place. The first time it was created that was interesting and revolutionary. Now it's just meh.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Damn I hope this bombs in the US. But I think it will do better than Genisys just by the fact that it has Cameron back, and it looks serious again. Terminator was never a jokey franchise, and I hate that they tried to turn it into another modern-day Marvel-level joke. The CG removes any level of threat, and that new Terminator is fucking awful. He looks like a tiny Puerto Rican man. Should've went for someone more imposing, like a Dwayne Johnson.
