Not feeling The Mountain Between Us, definitely thinking under $10m. Seems kinda drab and depressing.

38m The tracking and social media presence is undeniably there - I just don't remember the original being that big of a deal?

Re: October 6-8 predictions
Blade Runner - 55m.
presales are on par with Dunkirk and has strong reviews as well. So should be good enough for 50m+ OW.

Re: October 6-8 predictions
It is a three hour film, so I am glad to see people keeping their predictions in check.

Re: October 6-8 predictions
Blade Runner 2049 - $40m The Mountain Between Us - $5m My Little Pony - $12m (I think this will surprise because there is an audience for this kind of movie)

Re: October 6-8 predictions
Sooo I'm clearly the high end predictor, and I'm tempted to lower my 68 million to 64, but I remain confident that this will overperform. It has a name brand that Gravity and The Martian didn't and equally strong reviews. A dark trend of current events may drive folks to the theaters.
Any other last minute thoughts or predictions before Thursday previews?

Re: October 6-8 predictions
I believe WOM will be muted or average. There will be a battle inside Joe and Jane Popcorn to be positive about it because reviews are telling them it's great but their experience wasn't great at all. Whatever it opens with, legs will be short.

Re: October 6-8 predictions
I agree with Algren. I do not expect glowing word-of-mouth. This is a very, very long film, and let's be nice and call the pace...stately. And other than maybe an amusing five-second bit involving Harrison Ford, a dog, and a bottle of whiskey, there are no real crowd-pleasing or fist-pumping bits. It is not going to be an Inception- or Fury Road-type experience where audiences meet it halfway and are energized enough to step outside their comfort zone a tiny bit. People who go in with just a broad expectation of a cool, punchy science-fiction action movie are going to be dying inside.

Any other last minute thoughts or predictions before Thursday previews? The original was not that popular to elevate this to an event-level film. I am seeing under $50m OW.

Re: October 6-8 predictions
I agree Blade Runner is a niche brand at max and won't get it alone to event-level film. I don't think even $40m is guaranteed and believe Riggs might be correct.
