I really don't like the fact that these stand alone films are being released in between the sequels.

That's one a year for the next 5 years - apart from TFA, I can see fatigue setting in quickly.

They are better off saving the stand alone films for after the sequels are done.

The question will be if audiences can distinguish from Ford. Kind of interesting announcing it, it could be a major spoiler if Ford dies in Ep7. Or they are saying he does such a great job they want to jump on it.

Either way a smuggler in Space and how he won the falcon could be a great story. Always assumed a Solo film would be darker, so I'm not seeing 300+ from this. 7 is a major factor, ford could be involved where a past event intertwined with a current event.

This Ingruber guy...he has the looks, but he's a horrible actor. Sure some impressions in front of a camera are fine, I don't see this guy having the charisma to do it on the big screen.

Ford isn't a great actor either, at least not as Han Solo in the original three. He was still perfecting his craft back then. It's not until he got to the 90s where he become a solid actor. Ingruber is fine for Star Wars level.

Looks obviously don't matter. They need the 'blue collar every man space cowboy frat boy swag' Ford brought to the character and he will be fine. Before anybody says Chris Pratt, no, Pratt is more of a comedic goof. Ford's comedy was playing it straight and gruff. Off the top of my head, nobody really jumps to mind. Solo isn't Anakin Skywalker/Vader, but he has - by far - the most potential for origin films of any SW characters left. Efron's a little too hip with it, Han is an old school tough guy.

I think they should cast a unknown.

You are predicting $350m for this? I think $250m-$300m for this is great. They are building the series similar to MCU and a movie each year might be too much.

I think Ford killing it in TFA is gonna make this an even tougher sell. What sucks is the prequel is fine and all bringing back some other favorites played unfortunately by other actors. But I wish it would be between ROTJ and TFA.

Some complaints were why the hell is wearing that mask in the film. Maybe he sees his father too much when he looks in the mirror.

I believe Han Solo worked well in the original trilogy and The Force Awakens because of two things; a) he was the side character, essentially representing the audience when he rolls his eyes at the ridiculousness of "the force", and b) because of Ford. Making a stand-alone Han Solo prequel removes those two elements, and I don't see the Star Wars faithful getting behind a film that dilutes their brand this much, and that ruins the majesty of their icon.

Intrigue will be there, so a big opening will happen ($55m-$80m perhaps) but expect a low multiplier. However, it could still potentially feature Ford. There are, what, 30 years of Solo stories in-between Jedi and Awakens where Ford could fill in.

Honestly, because of how difficult it would be for people to accept anyone in the role other than Harrison, I think that if they really truly wanna do a Han Solo prequel, they should do it animated and then just get a really good Han Solo impressionist to do the voice.
