In my prediction for 2018 last month I gave it $325M DOM and $405M OS. After this trailer I'm holding on to this prediction.

At one stage I thought this would do Clones Adjusted (about $460m) but now it may barely pass Clones UNadjusted.

I felt generous and went for $250-$300m in the poll.

The problem with this is that Harrison Ford's Han Solo is a beloved, MEGA ICONIC character that radiates charisma, sex appeal and movie-star power. The new guy will have to compete against that every second he's on screen and from this trailer it looks like he's not very appealing at all. I'm getting Dane DeHaan in Valerian vibes from him.

If they can't convince audiences, who remember very well what young Harrison Ford looked and acted like in the role, that New Guy is Han Solo, then this film could be in big trouble. Potentially a Justice League-sized drop from Last Jedi.

It is terrible casting, sure. But besides that, ANOTHER *groan* Star Wars movie just lacks any feeling of being special. So both of those factors will hurt this pile of garbage.

The actor looks and sounds nothing like Ford which is a huge problem.

Story-wise it makes perfect sense to do a Han Solo prequel because everyone would love to see Lando and Jabba back, and as a character Solo's background is ripe for the picking. But they had to get casting right. Chris Pratt could have done an amazing job, he has that same bad boy sexiness and likeability that Ford had. Unfortunately, Pratt is basically playing the same role already in Guardians of the Galaxy.

I don't think this flopping will spell the end of the 'Story' spin offs though. I think a Obi Wan: A Star Wars Story film could be a big hit as long as they cast Ewan McGregor again. He is probably one of the only things that most people liked about the prequels and he's not too old that they'd have to recast.

I really do wonder why they chose this dipshit over Ingruber.

Trailer was fine IMO, but nothing special. I have to agree though that the Alden dude seems nothing like Solo so far, but I'll wait to see the movie before I judge him any further. Unless that next trailer blows people away I feel Disney might have a bit of a disappointment on their hands, because their is no way this coming anywhere near the EVENT status of the main trilogy or probably even RO. A good target for this movie should be $300M domestic and $600-$800M WW.

Nobody under the age of 35 gives a fuck about Han Solo just like they did not give a fuck about Indiana Jones in 2008.

Resemblance to Ford wouldn't matter if the guy was selling it. He isn't.

Kind of agree with you there, but 35 is far too high. I'd fully agree with you if you said 25.

While the casting isn't great the trailers seem to be hiding Alden from screen. There is just no way for the audience to connect with Solo in his "solo" movie.

With TLJ's reception, a Star Wars follow up less than 6 month's later combined with this meh trailer, and lastly being the 3rd and final big Disney release that month I think this bombs big time. I'm thinking MoS type numbers.

I feel it will cross $300m or maybe even $350m maybe because it is a SW movie but I do see a steeper decline from RO (not considering trilogy movies).

Also RO barely crossed $1b mark so I don't think this is getting there. While these movies are decent enough in OS markets they are unable to expand more than what they do in States, mid-50% OS to domestic ratio is the best these movies seem to manage.

Its a shame if this sinks Alden's career. I can see why they chose him. He made a strong impression in Hail, Caesar! so hopefully the trailer doesn't tell the whole story in regards to his performance.

Yeah, no. Han Solo is incredibly popular among Star Wars fans of all ages.

Which, to me, and more-often-than-not always indicates a US over-performance rather than an overseas under-performance.

Let's face it - there was never a need for a Solo movie.

Disney should have only released these stand alone film in between trilogies.

Yeah I liked Alden in Hail Caesar!, I think over the time he could be a decent actor.

Idk. I did not get TLJ hate even though certain sequences were crazy the first time I saw it but I didn't hate it. There's no baggage for me. I would have preferred Elgort in the role but whatever I'm past that. I don't care that Alden doesn't look or sound like or even supposedly say things the way Han would say it. The old Han is dead. Embrace the new Han. Getting tired of trailer reactions because fools are stuck on old Han. Anyway, I liked the teaser, the cast, and the young han.

That's a refreshing attitude there, nghtvsn. How do you feel about a black female Bond?

The trailer views for this on YouTube are pretty pathetic IMO. I mean the teaser has been out for almost a full 2 weeks and it has barely cracked 10 million. Disney is really going to have to bring with that next trailer, because I can easily see this being swallowed up by IW and Deadpool 2.

Yeah the reaction overall for this movie doesn't seem very positive and any hype right now is being swallowed by BP.
