It didn't work as an original film at all. It worked as a long-awaited sequel. That itself brings everything with it that you mentioned. In no way did it work as an original film. If it did, it would have made $100m total, because original films don't make $900m.

I think you mean "most record holders were original movies pre-TFA". And I accept that, but also most didn't open to $250m. TFA did not act like an original film in the slightest. It acted like what it was, a long-awaited, super hyped sequel to the biggest franchise in the world.

I think hype and buzz for this is very high and like RO will just open big and just steamroll past everything domestically in 2017.

I am thinking 220/700 million right now.

As soon as Coco comes out Disney will start leaking ecstatic reviews and churning out a fresh round of marketing. The whole first half of December will be abuzz with this being "the 1st/2nd/3rd" best Star Wars movie ever. If I'm wrong, Disney fucked up the marketing, all the rumors about Rian Johnson have been hype, or something else will have gone wrong... but I doubt it.

I wish they would re-release all of the Star Wars movies theatrically. Do one either every month or every other month. I've never seen one. I can't say I'm all that interested but if I'm going to watch them I'd want it to be on the big screen. I'd go see them.
