Ouija not doing 20 million is sad. John Wick is performing nicely though. |

Good for John Wick and so much for Ouija breaking out. It looks like mainstream horror fans got their craving satisfied with Annabelle. The movie will still make a HUGE profit based off it's micro-budget, but I'm not expecting good legs. |

John Wick did really well. Could have been a total flop. |

So it seems $15m openings are great nowadays. It will probably fail to make $45m. Nothing too special. Kind of a run-of-the-mill performance. |

I find the number impressive because I thought it would finish with around 15 to 20 million, a la Homefront. |

15m would be great for John Wick. It's a film that landed on the schedule quite late and prob has a low budget. A 45m total would be great. |

I believe it was produced independently and acquired by Lionsgate/Summit relatively recently, so I definitely suspect their exposure is comparatively minimal. |

It just seems that people are disappointed with Ouija's opening, but think John Wick is somehow performing greatly. Ouija cost less than $5m. I have no idea how much John Wick cost, but it's doing less than Ouija, so even if it cost less, it's not necessarily performing better. In the grand scheme of movies and box office, these openings are just meh and will be forgotten very quickly. |

Half to agree. There is nothing special about John Wicks opening. As a matter of fact it's pretty weak considering its preview number. This weekend will be forgotten by Monday. Also awful cinamascores for both. |

Strange Ouija's preview ratio was higher than Annabelle, Dracula Untold, and especially Fury. |

People are accustomed to these lowball action numbers from guys like Jason Statham and recent Arnold movies so this looks amazing when in actuality, it's pretty underwhelming. It's not like action films can't open big. It's just that we've come to expect that straight-forward action stars don't open movies to more than mid-teens. |
