Not to be the contrarian here because Mojo has definitely gone downhill over the years and I agree with all of the comments here...

But...I'd like to see how many people here would be able to support a website that needs to be updated every day, is very data heavy, operates as a small entity in a giant corporation, has to rely on the timing and fickleness of studios, is increasingly short staffed, also needs to stay up to date across social media channels, create content summary pieces multiple times over the week, whose top bosses probably dictate more of the product offerings and services removed/cut from the website than the people most knowledgable about them have power over, and also have to deal with the dislike/remarks of thousands of followers, website visitors, etc.

It's not as easy to run as we think it is! Unfortunately when expectations go up, and staffing goes down, and an organization becomes more like a hierarchy, quality is one of the first things to go.

Not justifying their mistakes or sloppiness as they are a business selling advertising and services and should be presenting better, but they've been at this for 17 years and get 100X more negative comments than probably all the good that they've provided the industry and box office followers like ourselves. So gratitude every now and then is great to express too!

Thank you for this. I appreciate the data BOM has provided and continue to provide over the years. I helped Brandon Gray troubleshoot the site back in 2002 before the move to XML. It was essentially a one-man show as it appears to be now.

My guess is that IMDB and BOM fall under the same division and the more established IMDB is preventing its quasi-rival/subordinate from getting the resources it needs. Yes they fall under the same parent company but it doesn't mean they are integrated.

Fun fact: Rth and Brandon went to university together.

Yet another Box Office Mojo fail, at least on my end. Several pages fail to load, and this message appears:

I get this every time I go deeper than the main page. Yearly lists etc. But if I refresh, it is ok again.

That's actually pretty awesome and everyone on WOKJ is as jealous as hell. :funny:

Including me.

I like Sujit Chawla's writing. It has a bit of humor. He is Gitesh's backfill.

It's never about ability. It's about who you know and your experience. Lots of talented individuals live shit lives because they didn't know the right people.

Well, now we have articles, but they suck butt. Is that really better? I can't decide.

So this morning BOM not only had the Friday estimates up before 11:30AM Eastern time, they also had a bunch of below-the-Top 10 numbers to go with it. They're even starting to put run times and production budgets back on movies, which they had fallen out of. If BOM on the comeback trail?

All they need is regular articles with pictures (forecasts, reports, yearly and monthly previews, around the world roundups) and they should have links to said articles above the respective weekend chart.

Jeez bro, you can just start pounding away. You gotta ease it in, test the waters.

A welcome return. Though, I think I fell out of reading forecasts 5 years ago. Simple round ups are much better.

Brad is also fixing Keith-era errors when I post about them on the Facebook page. Sure, the missing OS info is still missing, but stuff like Magnificent Seven being listed as MLK 2017, Self/Less' 3rd weekend actual being $31k instead of $311k, and so on, are getting fixed. And Brad isn't even waiting for the standard update time when the newest charts go up; when I pointed stuff out during the evening, they were fixed within 2 or so hours!

BRAD! AAAA-AAAAH! SAVIOR OF THE UNIVERSE!

This week's article was a nice read. I prefer this personal approach, with all predictions/opinion coming from Brad Brevet.

Anyone else get the 'We're in the process of updating the site right now.' message all the time? Never could understand why they can't update the site in the background. Almost seems like an unresolved glitch.

Post subject:  Re: The End of an Era? BOM goes gone girl

I get it sometimes, but if I refresh a few minutes later it's gone. But I agree. Almost all other sites can update at development/uat so the move to production is minimal. Unless we're just unlucky enough to go to the site at the very second it's being updated - I guess it might take 60-120 seconds for it to fully update. There is a lot of data on BOM.

I usually only get the "Update in Progress" page during the time frame that they're actually updating, but every attempt this evening, even now at almost 9PM, is the updating page.

This problem is even worse in the last month. I've reached out to BOM on the issue and asked if they can make some time to let me know if they are working on a solution. It makes the site almost unusable.
