The VENOM trailer is out. Nobody I know thinks it looks good. By the laws of the internet, this means the movie will tank.

The HALLOWEEN trailer hits next week. The movie is really good. People are excited for it.

So what the hell. I'm betting the $5 million Blumhouse rebootquel makes more than Sony's super expensive sorta-Marvel-but-not-really thing.

I think Halloween is going to be big. I don't think it will be It big... but I think it could get past $200 mil, maybe $250 mil.

Venom has insane trailer views, and they look legit. I think it's possible they finish within like $15 mil from each other.

I'd lean to Venom for now.

I was actually thinking closer to, like, $105 million for HALLOWEEN and $90 million for VENOM, but sure, we can aim for $200m!

Oh, no. With the trailer views, no way Venom misses $100 mil.

And I think It's success will greatly help Halloween. I'd be disappointed with anything under $100 mil for it.

You mean like how BAD SAMARITAN has 20 million trailer views and has grossed $3.4 million?

Trailer views mean that potential is there. Whether the concept realizes it comes down to near release factors (release, competitor performance etc).

I think Halloween is going to perform very large. Like $60-70m opening weekend large. A good trailer featuring the original music and JLC paired with good reviews and October opening? Obvious break out potential.

If Venom sucks, this could happen.

This is the, what, fourth Halloween reboot? The franchise is not fresh. It could open big but it will make most of its money in the first week.

Venom is fresh. And no, no one remembers Spider-Man 3. Even if it sucks, it could be looking at a mini Suicide Squad type performance.

I wouldn't be surprised if Venom opens higher than Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Bad Samaritan's trailer has 516 likes, which would be low for a video with 20k views, Venom's has 1.3 million likes. People are actually watching and digging that trailer.

Hahaha, I hadn't seen BAD SAMARITAN's likes ratio. That is... that is something.

That has 516 likes. Which tells me the trailer auto played a ton, and was not actually watched.

Venom was actually watched.

Disregard as geek beat me to it.

Why the crazy 200 million prediction and 70 million opening for Halloween? As Barrabas said, this is almost like the 4th revamp of the series. Its been restarted more times than Aliens and Predator. Its not going to go up drastically. As for the club, not in

I am not buying $200m total for both these movies. I'll go with Venom for now. OUT.

Interesting club.

Is Venom the Solo of the Spiderman Homecoming universe, which is weird because Spiderman Homecoming is not only a three-boot but is itself part of a bigger universe? In the best case I don't see it being anywhere near a 200m film though even with Avengers tie-in. I can see a scenario where it doesn't do as well as the first 2 Hulk movies.

Was It proof that there is a new horror renaissance, or was it just a superbly marketed and well-timed anomaly? This Halloween (H40) could pull off something big but the soup has been pissed in considerably.
Also it could be just a 2-weekend movie. But after 9 years I think people are ready for this. It (by which I mean H40) will not make more than the original adjusted, 184m, but could potentially top H20 at 108m.

I honestly can't pick a side without an H40 trailer.

Post Re: HALLOWEEN > VENOM Domestic Box Office Club
I don't think IT portends a massive horror renaissance, but the genre is doing really well lately - GET OUT, A QUIET PLACE, THE CONJURING, etc. People seem hungry for a new HALLOWEEN film starring Jamie Lee Curtis.

And yes, this is the third time the series has been rebooted. But don't forget the first two goes (H20 and Zombie's remake) were big hits. Zombie's remake opened at $40 million adjusted - even with a DVD-quality version of the film leaking online more than a week before it opened - and H20 hits $50 million.

I have no doubt it'll be a two-week wonder, but Week 2 is Halloween itself.

Lastly, I'm just going to vouch for the film. It's really good, and I think it's something audiences are going to enjoy. It's classy, with easily the best version of Michael Myers since Carpenter's.

Halloween w/ JLC is a different brand level than without.

You mean Halloween H20 that grossed just 55 million even with writer Kevin Williamson striking gold with Scream

You mean that $55 million that adjusts to over $100 million now, despite coming out in the summer of 1998?

Also Kevin Williamson didn't write H20, he just polished it.

I love, in a sense, that they are basically saying fuck you to all the other films in the series except the first one. That could annoy a lot of fans, especially of H20, but those same fans will see it anyway. It could bring back a lot of fans who ditched the series over time.

This doesn't look like what others had billed. Not so sure of big break out now.

Something which slow-plays the scares and is atmospheric was I expected. The parts with the inmates laughing, Michael shaking the stall, and the closet bit look like a direct-to-video film. Not impressed.
