The Giver Predictions
This belated adaptation of the highly popular 1993 children's novel is directed by Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Salt). It stars, among others, Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, and relative newcomer Brenton Thwaites, recently seen in Maleficent and The Signal. It comes out August 15th via the Weinstein Company, opening against Let's Be Cops and The Expendables 3.
So, how is this going to fare?
To me, it seems rather fated to flop as The Host and Beautiful Creatures did. Harvey Weinstein and his team are just not handling it right. I do not sense it is generating very much excitement among the core teenage audience. It does have a couple of the YA-hit ingredients, including a soundtrack featuring such relatively "hot" names as Aloe Blacc, Jake Bugg, and Capital Cities, but still.
A generous prediction from me might be 12/39.

Re: The Giver Predictions
This looks cheap despite the cast and the ad campaign is bad. It's definitely going to flop.

It looks better than all of the YA shit of today. I hope it does well. I expect it to make around $65m domestically.

the book was fantastic, but this looks terrible. I was excited for this until I saw it was being amde by the Weinstein Company, and then the trailer. 12/23

Re: The Giver Predictions
I actually like the serious tone of the trailers but they are not very well made. This won't fit the mid-tier YA novels-to-movie bill and fall short of $80m-$90m. I like Magic Mike's number for this but hope it makes $70m

Flop. I really liked the book in junior high but this looks nothing like it.
