Crazy. At least 1 in 5 actually enjoyed it with that stellar audience score.

Re: Thursday #s
Good number, though Escape Plan was at about $2.3M. So I'd guess around $15M for Grudge?

9.2 seems good. Even great. I was expecting something closer to 7.8. Hard film to really read until this weekend. This weekend should tell whether it'll blow past 500, or struggle to reach it.

Sony slotted it same weekend last year so I think it's a pretty good comparison, albeit a PG-13 one whose previews started at 4 rather than 7pm. Deadline ( https://deadline.com/2020/01/star-wars-rise-of-skywalker-the-grudge-uncut-gems-weekend-box-office-2020-1202820066/) forecasting The Grudge at $13 million and Star Wars at $37.2 million (-49%). Jumanji $24.55M Little Woman $12M (-28%) Frozen $11M Spies in Disguise $10.4M (-22%)

Re: Thursday #s
Frozen 2 was down 33.2% compared to 39.2% for the original. The other drops also support the idea that more people were off this year than in 2013. Should benefit Friday, but the bumps over the next two days should be lower than 2013.

Re: Thursday #s
The Grudge apparently has an F cinemascore.
A wasted opportunity in my view seeing that a quality remake of the 2004 film would have been worthwhile considering how rubbish that version was. It was the success it was thanks to audiences treating it as a defacto The Ring sequel.

Re: Thursday #s
Yeah The Ring Two kind of underwhelmed thanks to The Grudge coming before it.
It's unfortunate that the first weekend of January is mostly a dumping ground for bad horror movies when this is such a lucrative spot for horror. Imagine if they actually released a great one here? I long for the day that happens.

Re: Thursday #s
Hey no one ever went to the movies here 20 years ago. We forget a lot, but it took films like White Noise and Coach Carter to at least make the January Box Office interesting.
