Highest yet by far for a Marvel movie. Certainly not a bad start. |

hahaha and so it begins with Nikki. I wonder what midnights will end up being....14? ![]() FRIDAY 8 AM: Rival studios tell me that Marvel’s The Avengers from Disney did not set a record for midnight showings — and made between $18 million-$20 million from about 2,500 North American theaters. The midnight record is still Warner Bros’ Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $43.5M. Disney has not released an official number yet. |

The list from Jon's midnight thread: Quote: 1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (7/15/11) - $43.5 million (3,800 theaters/$11,447) 2. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part I (11/18/11) - $30.25 million (3,521/$8,591) 3. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (6/30/10) - $30.1 million (4,000+/$7,525) 4. The Twilight Saga: New Moon (11/18/09) - $26.27 million (3,514/$7475) 5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I (11/17/10) - $24 million (3,700/$6486) 6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (7/15/09) - $22.2 million (3,003/$7,392) 7. The Hunger Games (3/23/12) - $19.735 million (2,565/$7,693) 8. The Dark Knight (7/18/08) - $18.5 million (3,040/$6085) 9. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (5/19/05) - $16.5 milllion (2,900/$5689) 10. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (6/24/09) - $16 million (3,000/$5333) 11. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (7/10/07) - $12 million 12. The Hangover Part II (5/26/11) - $10.4 million (2,600/$4000) 13. Spider-Man 3 (5/4/07) - approx. $10 million So yeah, highest by far for a Marvel film. Even beat The Dark Knight. And if it somehow followed the general Marvel trend of being 15% of opening day, that'd be $133m opening day. ![]() Realistically, it's a great sign that it topped The Hunger Games, which had a huge rush for midnight (compared to this, which was more walk-up like Transformers). If it had the same percentage as Transformers 2, it'd have a $76m opening day, roughly. Even the $18m number would give it $69m. |

For a Marvel movie this is pretty fucking spectacular. The fact that it didn't have nearly as HUGE of presales as TDK, but still beat it is VERY impressive. It's going to interesting to see how it does today, but $150M+ is LOCKED. So much for MTC LOL! |

Superb. If # holds then it beat TDK and Hunger Games. Would see a 160+ for sure Only Nikki would bring up Harry Potter. I mean, really? |

Another tidbit from Nikki "IMAX reports $1.31 million from midnights playing at 273 locations, also not a record." |

Justin121 wrote: Another tidbit from Nikki "IMAX reports $1.31 million from midnights playing at 273 locations, also not a record." Using that figure to extrapolate, that would mean The Avengers did roughly $18.7m last night in total. |

Even if the number comes out close to $18m that is HUGE for the movie. DH2's record can go down now $160m is highly likely. |

No kidding, somebody is bitter. Next we're going to hear about how the 3D portion is also not a record. |

I agree. Anything over $15M is still an AMAZING number, especially when you consider the only superhero movie to post numbers this big was TDK and that was 4 years ago. However, why the hell is Nikki comparing it to DH2 ? I mean seriously nobody expected this to be that. |

Official midnights are 18.7 Million. Very nice. "FRIDAY 8 AM: Disney reports that Marvel’s The Avengers did not set a record for midnight showings – but made a gargantuan $18.7 million from about 2,500 North American theaters. In terms of records, it’s the 8th biggest midnights opening, and the biggest superhero midnights debut, with the rest Twilight Saga or Harry Potter franchise films or The Hunger Games. IMAX reports $1.31 million from midnights playing at 273 locations, also not a record. The overall midnights record is still Warner Bros’ Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $43.5M." |

^ haha, nice Kenspy. So, $18.7m. Again, using Transformers' percentage, it would make about $72.5m. I could see something like this going down: Friday - $72.5m ($18.7m midnight) Saturday - $54m (-25%) Sunday - $43m (-20%) Weekend - $169.5m Record. ![]() |

BJ wrote: Is that tied with TDK for biggest midnights set by a superhero film? I think it is 200K higher but way lesser in admissions. With that number it didn't match THG's midnight admissions as well. |
