Not much to say about this one except it looks like one of the most appealing Denzel movies in a while. Atleast something that won't be involving trains again. The trailer is solid and Universal isn't waisting any time when it comes to marketing as they already played a perfectly timed t.v. spot during the Mavericks/Heat game which got a big reaction on twitter. The buzz is there and Denzel Washington's consistant star power gurantees atleast a $20M+ openning. We also can't forget that while Ryan Reynolds doesn't have much star power he could still bring in a healthy amount of female moviegoers who woudln't usually see a movie like this. Definitely has alot of potential IMO.

:My Prediction:
$25M OW/ $84M DOM

I see this doing numbers similar to 2010's Unstoppable. (20/80)

It'll do a bit better than Unstoppable, IMO. It seemed to me Unstoppable almost had to fight against its premise. See Denzel and Chris Pine race to stop the runaway train! It almost had to sell itself in a, "We know, the plot is goofy, but we swear you'll have fun" way.

Not to say Safe House appears to be a bastion of originality, but it seems more exciting and compelling. And Denzel seems to be shifting into a Training Day-esque mode rather than playing it entirely straight and noble.

I honestly think this has a chance at reaching $30M OW. The marketing has been great so far ( loving the Jay Z/Kanye West song in there) and the buzz continues to grow. The tv spots are fantastic too. Simple, to the point and action packed.

Wrongturn687, even with the R rating, do you still believe it has a chance of $30M OW? I really would love for this to happen especially for Ryan Reynolds good actor, but hasn't had a hit since The Proposal.

I do eventhough I don't want to hype it up too much because it might not happen. Denzel is at the peak of his drawing power and it doesn't seem to be slowing down yet. As for the rating it didn't stop BOE from doing $30M+ OW and this looks alot better than that flick. Granted it doesn't have the MLK holiday advantage of that movie which might make it more frontloaded, but the breakout potential is definitely there. Twitter buzz is really strong and the trailer got a great reaction when I saw on the bigscreen infront of TDI.

This is going to be huge. Bigger than Denzel's last few.

Seems more appealing than most of his recent movies. A lot of youtube trailer views.

I honestly think this is the best marketing campaign I have seen for one of his movies since American Gangster. The premise may not be as appealing as that movie, but it definitely looks alot better than Book Of Eli, so I don't see it opening lower than that movie either. At this point $30M+ OW is pretty much guranteed IMO.

If the studio's Contraband (Wahlberg's action film) can open close to $25M in its 3-day, I can't see this one open less than the amount.

I am still not sold on the idea of $30m+ OW but it might come close to that number.

I am currently predicting around $29-30 million with a $85-95 million final total with a possible chance at the $100m mark.

I think this will mimic The Book of Eli.

It'll do a bit better, IMO. More accessible.

Post subject:  Re: SAFE HOUSE predictions

As I thought earlier this doesn't look like something that will cross $30m in OW. I see $27m OW/$85m total.

You guys were too low. Maybe people were still caught up in the Taken hype - older stars in action movies.... This film made a lot of dough.

Interesting how this forum is now replying to 6 year old threads.
