Byrne, Ellen Wroe, Jacqueline MacInnes-Wood Genre: Horror MPAA Rating: R (for strong violent/gruesome accidents, and some language) __________________________________________________________________ Alright so two years ago The Final Destination came out and took the series to a new high grossing $66M domestic and over $180M Worldwide. Granted the reception to that movie wasn't nearly as positive as it only garnered a 4.9 rating on IMDB proving that most people thought the movie was pretty awful. Now here we are two years later with another FD movie, but this time this one may actually be good. 1. The Final Destination WB (NL) $66,477,700 3,121 $27,408,309 2. Final Destination 2 NL $46,961,214 2,834 $16,017,141 2,834 As you can see these movies are pretty consistent and probably the most consistant horror franchise besides the Saw series. Still this one will suffer somewhat from the negative wom of TFD from 2009 and the 3D share won't likely be as strong since 3D fatigue has already set in. However the buzz on this movie is pretty strong. It has been creating alot of excitement on twitter and even pulled in over 3,000 tweets on Monday alone. The trailers have gotten mostly positive reactions so far and to this movie's best advantage there hasn't been a big horror film on the market since Insidious back in April and we aren't even going to mention Scream 4. It may still have a weaker opening than TFD and will likely gross less in the full run, but I honestly think the positives speak more loudly than the negatives and this one should have a very solid run. :My Prediction: Opening Weekend - $26M Domestic Gross - $63M |

There's been 0 straight horror in so long - it's so silly for studios to think that they all have to compete with each other first thing starting with the school year. Put Piranha 3DD or Shark Night during the summer, for crying out loud! All there's been is comedy, action, and kids all summer. For this reason I think Planet of the Apes will get a little extra help from disgruntled horror fans. In 2009 they put FD4 and Halloween 2 on the same date! Yes, horror is best in the fall, but how can that be a good idea when you could have a month to yourself in the summer? Or another month - just look at Insidious and FD1. Would have been interesting to see how Scream 4 could have done in June or July (or December - I'm so bitter). Anyway, FD5 I'd say is poised to fall somewhere between FD3 and FD4. |

FD4 probably would have opened higher without H2, like 30m+ so that puts this one's potential at 35m+ OW, but then the last film had poor WoM so... 30m/70m |

So there wasn't a thread so just adding this here. The Final Destination trailer has garnered 178.7 million views worldwide within the first 24 hours, making it the second most-watched horror film trailer (behind New Line's It with 200 million views). 14 years between films this is looking to be a major cinematic event from the generation that grew up on this in the 2000s. Feels like this has mega, mega breakout all over it. $60M+ OW? Don't think it will open at IT levels but feels like people that skip Thunderbolts might make this the unofficial start of summer otherwise. With Mission Impossible and Lilo & Stitch the following weekend seems like late May box office will be humming. It's also going to be playing in front of Minecraft (WB movie) in all likelihood so lots of people are going to see this. Seems like it will be multi-quadrant. |

Isn't Minecraft PG? I do not see a trailer for this being in front of Minecraft. It would be awesome if this did 100+ domestic, especially since they were going to send it to MAX. |

It's just a good idea for a movie, like how they can make dinosaurs get out of a theme park made to watch them every 30 years because it's such a banger concept. |
