10m previews

Actual previews are closer to 9.5m than 10m according to Charlie. But studios tend to round up the estimate and never update it and so that is what is. I guess Friday would be adjusted down to make up for it. It looks like true friday of 30m is in play as walkups so far are uber strong. I am thinking 39m ish friday estimate from studio tomorrow morning.

It's first Oscar and a possible $40M Friday. Overseas is huge too. A nice month for Godzilla.

Holdovers Ghostbusters ($2.69M), KFP4 ($2.1M +23.6%), Dune 2 ($1.91M -12%) Thursday. KFP4 is going into a 4day weekend with $141.4M.

China did almost 100m yuan OD. OW is looking like $50m. After a while we could see China hit 100m.

Charlie is saying 26m+ True friday or around 36m with previews. Excellent number though morning showed something higher could happen.

3 2021 pandemic sequels opening over a 5 week period.

Dune $41M -> $82.5M
Ghostbusters $44M -> $45M
Godzilla/Kong $32M -> $80M

Curious to see Venom's performance as a 2021 pandemic sequel data point later this year but the #'s just make Ghostbusters look so much worse. Godzilla is also bigger than 2019's OW ($47.8M) but under 2014's ($93.2M).

Also super impressive, we could see 2 $80M+ openings in a single month. Last year we saw 9 over the entire year.

Godzilla KOTM. Was really an anomaly then? After that film bombed I really thought people didn’t care about these movies anymore

I think adding Kong explains the 2nd movie being bigger than 2019 (if we adjust for the pandemic, when in reality it grossed less). This one is something else though.

I think its simple. $100m during the pamdemic is like $150-200m now. The film left us wanting more Kong and Zilla. Here it is.

$80m is going to be pretty special. I mean that's Dune 2 level but without as many premium screens. Sure it's legs won't be strong but a $175m-ish total is nothing to sneeze at. April films are adult heavy so GxK holds may be better than expected.

Considering the competition -37% for Dune looks great to me
