Algren wrote: It looks like The Expendables 3 will make over $200m worldwide. It's already over $160m ($125m OS). It still has Japan and Italy and another $20m from China. Hollywood Reporter has its WW cume at 124 million WW, not overseas. Last weekend it was only at 71 OS. Either way it's number is not accurate right now. Anyone have any better updated links? |

You shouldn't rely on HR or BOM. I keep track of its WW gross on a country by country basis. It's over $160m as of Sunday 7th Sep. |

It's really crazy that if Lucy opens in China, it will probably pass $450 million worldwide... Amazing for a movie like this. |

It's also very interesting to look at the rest of the chart by country, too. For most of Europe, Titanic is still #1 while the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films are still ranked very high. Not much has changed in this market since Titanic. In America, Titanic still dominates, but superhero and animated sequels have begun to fill the rest of the top spots. Only a single Lord of the Rings films occupies a spot in the America section. And in Asia, there's a lot more diversity. Titanic isn't #1 in any of those markets, and domestic films are beating Hollywood fare. |

Thank you guys! Also, there's barely a 2014 release in Europe to be found, while Asia and to a lesser extent South America have their share of 2014 Überblockbusters... |

What? D&DT scores the biggest opening of the year for a U.S. movie (admissions) and the fourth biggest overall in Norway... |

The original made 120 million OS in 94.That's really unheard of for an original comedy at the time. Here is the list that I can gather of original comedies over 100 million OS at that point: 2 of real merit are Coming to America and Dumb and Dumber. Rest are all pretty family friendly or had international stars. I believe Coming to America held the record for R rated comedy OS until The Full Monty in 97. 1. Home Alone- 248 million 2. Mrs. Doubtfire- 222 million 3. Who Framed Roger Rabbit- 195 millon 4. Crocodile Dundee- 185 million 5. Back to the future- 170 million 6. Coming To America- 160 million 7. Look Who's Talking- 157 million 8. A Fish Called Wanda- 126 million 9. Dumb and Dumber- 120 million 10. Hot Shots- 111 million 11. Kindergarten Cop- 110 million 12. Twins- 104 million Sequels Home Alone 2- 185 million Beverly Hills Cop II- 146 million Crocodile Dundee II- 130 million Three Men and a Baby- NA Blazing Saddles- NA Young Frankenstein-NA |

One more thing of merit from that list. Christopher Columbus was the shit OS for family comedies. |

We seem to be getting to the point that sometime in the next 5 years, a movie will do $1 billion worldwide in a week. Just inevitable! |

T5 did 74 million for the weekend (85 total) and so far is doing better than Salvation. Considering the 155 million budget (3 was 185 and 4 was 200 million) is already at 130 WW, it's off to a good start. Though to be fair we always knew this film wasn't going to make a profit without OS. Not sure how many markets it hasn't opened in yet, but against the WC that's pretty good. |

Of the major markets it has China, Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan left. $300+ million is certain. The question is, how much more. |

No release date for China yet. Though they'd be mad not to release it here. |

Can JW gross another 174m internationally to reach 1b? How much did it do this past wknd?? |

Post subject: | Re: Intl. Box-Office Thread |
JW is slowing down in OS markets (it fell 50% this weekend) so it needs to make close to $100m in Japan to get past $1b OS mark. I don't see that happening as of now. |

Post subject: | Re: Intl. Box-Office Thread |
A $23.1m weekend for $877.3m OS total it looks like it would do $1b OS afterall it would need about $60m total from Japan. |
