I love Michael Bay!
THE ROCK, BAD BOYS 1 & 2 , ARMAGEDDON, PEARL HARBOR, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE(producer)........ Most of Bay's films are very entertaining.

THE ISLAND looks like another Bay's winner.

Saw a trailer attached to Ring 2... looks like it draws from the vanilla sky/matrix your asleep in an alternate reality theme.

Should be good. Moved it up a few notches on my anticipation list.

I don't find any of those movies entertaining.

Btw, is this really correct?

"What if there were a place"

Shouldn't it be places then, if were should be in use? :-k

It's not like Bay's other summer blockbusters. It's more sci/fi-ish. I think it'll make Minority Report numbers.

Opening Weekend: $36 million
Total Gross: $126 million

I get the feeling that this will be my favorite Bay film. Something about it makes me think this will be different then the rest.

In any case, I expect similar numbers to Bad Boys 2:

47m/142m

(Armegeddon was his best)

Armageddon was his best? That movie epitomized every good thing about a Bay film (amazing visuals, great action, slick entertainment) and every bad thing (bad acting, cheesyness, terrible dialog, ridiculous story). Overall, I rank it 4th among his 5 films.

I have respect for him ever since his work on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Which is one of my favourite movies. Period.)

This should be great. Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson are great leads for an action movie. Much better actors than Martin laurence and Will Smith... heh.

And the trailer looks very classy.

Prediction:
$40,000,000
$135,000,000

This looks like another Michael Bay winner. The only surprising part is that Bruckheimer's name is not on this film. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is Bay's first film without Bruckheimer. But it looks like he has learned well from the master b/c this trailer looks awesome!
52/150

I really liked the trailer personally because it looked very interesting. Scarlett rules, she is a great actress. I think that this one will do great business.

With a super high theatre count (3500+)
36/132

With a lower theatre count (2500-3499)
28/111

Don't worry, I'm sure this isn't the final trailer. I, Robot opened one week before it, and had it's first trailer come out one week earlier. After that it had at least two, maybe three other trailers come out. I'd expect at least one, maybe two more.

Thats a 5* multiplier :-k Are you really sure.

I say 48/150
The more "serious" stuff will bring perhaps one head more into the cinema than BB2 did.
If it has an excellent, fresh story maybe 160

No, not at all. "A place" is a predicate nominative of "There." Taking off the "What if" would leave you with only "There were a place." Now, if you were to flip the "There" and the "A place" (since they are the same thing), the sentence would read "A place were there."

OR, think of it this way: A place is a singular noun....A place. Were refers to a plural subject. And, since we already established that "there" and "a place" could be reversed, how can a singular subject lead into a plural verb?
