$71m off a $43m opening day is absurd in any market. Not even Twilight managed that kind of ridiculous frontloadedness.

What the hell happened there? Appartment of Love is melting.

Well, judging by its pre-release interest, seems it was a much-hyped teen flick, and I guess they all rushed out in the first two days.

Apartment of Love has a douban rating of 2.8. The lowest possible score there is 2 since you have to give at least 1 out of 5 stars, so the WoM is atrocious (80% of its ratings are 1-star). Along with the rush factor for being the movie adaptation of a well-received, long-running TV-series, it's no surprise for that kind of frontloadedness.

The Island, on the other hand, is a WoM hit for the first directing effort of Huang Bo, a popular Chinese actor.

Yep the numbers are showing those facts now. Still that kind of melting is just AMAZING. How fast does the WoM travel in China?

People care about scores. And they read reviews through the app.

Apartment of Love was a relative success after day 1 with regards to its budget, though. Asora, however, was not. It was pulled from cinemas after making just $7 million. Its budget? $113 million.

Has there been such a high profile release to have such a heavy drop in its second weekend ?

Author:  stuffp [ Mon Aug 20, 2018 3:44 am ]
Post subject:  Re: China Box Office

Well I don't think it was very high profile, but it has a very larger fan base, which now it shows the film's reach also completely doesn't go beyond it.

The Meg number was number 1 on Monday.

Fallout opens to $77 million, Ant-Man and The Wasp reaches $108 million, and The Meg passes $150 million.

While these are good, Chinese movies are making so much more. So the government must be very happy. The Island is up to $194 million and Hello Mr. Billionaire is at $370 million.

Cool. Is there a correlation between this rating and legs at BO or it's just used for information purposes. Also do you know how much Ant Man 2 scored in dianping?
