It isn't going to get to $296m TOTAL, let alone by Sunday just gone. Just one of many mistakes you've made so far in this conversation. ;)

Were did I say "total"?
Or you are just trolling and I fell for it...

You didn't, which is the point. Can you read? I didn't say YOU said "total". I said that it won't even reach $296m total, LET ALONE by Sunday (which you did say).

Dying to Survive is going to be a WOM monster, 9.0 at douban.

It has 9.7 on Dianping. I noticed it made some money mid-week, went straight to #1.

Any numbers on how much Black Water actually made in China?

Post subject:  Re: China Box Office

It has made $7,733,273 after 24 days.

Not good, but not bad...it probably wouldn't have made a third of that in the US.
Escape Plan 2 on the other hand, would it have a US release, it should have at least made what it did in China too right?

If Hades didn't have Stallone I think it might have just made a quarter of it's China gross.

Who's to say what Black Water would've made in the US if released. If depends on so many things, and I do not remember any Van Damme or Dolph film in the last 15 years that we could use as a basis for prediction.

I think there is a smaller market in the US for Escape Plan 2 style films, so I could've seen it make just $5m if released theatrically. It was a wise decision to make it VOD. It's a 10pm fall-asleep-in-front-of-the-television watch, not a go-to-cinema-and-buy-popcorn watch.

Already at $200m after 4 full days, with Sunday essentially on par with Sat. $600m+ should happen.

Everybody is seeing it. My Moments feed is littered with photos of movie tickets to see it.

That movie is quite a tear jerker. Reminded me of Dallas buyers club. Quite a scandalous topic as well. Shouldn’t China have universal coverage like the UK and Cuba. I think I watched the right film.

Well, it is playing in the US and China, so that's a start.

Dying to Survive has already grossed $230m, and it's only been out for 5 days. That's better than the 5-day US performances of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Rogue One, and about on-par with Incredibles 2.

It will out-gross Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's China gross today.

I know they probably think this poster looks amazing, but to me it just looks so cheap. This movie looks so dumb.

I thought the film was quite entertaining. Hopefully it does well in China .

Skyscraper comes out at the weekend. I don't think it will do too well, despite this type of trash being what we expect the Chinese to eat up. It only has 98k people wanting to see it on DianPing. Even Escape Plan 2 had more than that 3 days before release (130k), and Skyscraper seems way more like the type of film to appeal to people that use the app than Hades ever did. Think we might be in store for a flop here. Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings doesn't come out until 27th July and it already has 300k people wanting to see it. Sherlock Gnomes, the sort of animated children's film that is usually unpopular in China, has 45k people wanting to see it.

Dying to Survive is up to $378m after 12 days. Not going to be a $600m+ grosser.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has $250m after 32 days in release. It shouldn't be out for much longer.

I thought I had seen a few advanced screenings for Animal Crackers, and Box Office Mojo just confirmed it. It made $72,240 at the weekend. I think it has the same thing on 21st July too, before its nationwide rollout on 27th July. Funny it ranked above Escape Plan 2's 3rd weekend from just a handful of cinemas. Then again, EP2 is also only in a handful of cinemas now!

Post subject:  Re: China Box Office

Dying to Survive reached $400m today, on its 15th day in release. That puts it at the same speed as Incredibles 2 in the US.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom reached $250m yesterday, after 34 days, and it's still #4 in the top ten. Incredible.

And funny to see at #10 yesterday was a film that's been in release for 3,121 days ... Xin Ling De Yang Guang. :funny:

Umm, so Skyscraper has a 9.2 rating. :whaa:

And The Meg has 192k people wanting to see it, and it doesn't come out for 20 days. This could be big.

Post subject:  Re: China Box Office

So despite its 9.2 score, Skyscraper could not even gross $50m opening weekend. It reached $48m over its first three days. I'm happy with that. The Meg should do more. It's now up to 207k people wanting to see it.

Show Dogs managed a $1.3 million opening, and Sherlock Gnomes managed a whopping $1.1 million. Animal Crackers, which was only released on Saturday for a 2-day opening grossed over $3 million. Fucking stupid to release all three of these movies on the same weekend.

Dying to Survive is now at $426 million after 18 days. Currently it is the third highest-grossing movie of the year after Detective Chinatown 2 and Operation Red Sea.

It is interesting that Escape Plan 2: Hades has climbed from 5.0 on opening day to 5.7 today. I feel as though the young crowd that rushes out to see everything, they are very powerful in terms of initial grades, and they hated it, but the older crowd, who are more patient and take their time to see films, they actually quite like it, which is why the score has been steadily growing. There are still obviously a ton of 0-5 grades from people, which is why it is taking a long time for the average to move up, but it must be getting 8s and 9s and 10s for these later viewers.
